As to whether it will have any use like a Rich's p16, that remains to be seen.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to reduce any other low periods using this, as the spark is too close to avoid destroying the oscillator. p240 can be easily done using a pentadecathlon, but it looks like the p48, p80, p96, and p144 pages won't need updating unless I'm missing something. Either way, massive congrats to Rob Liston!

Yes, it's a p48, but no cell there is p48, and indeed the cell that turns on as a result of the interaction is p24.

The oscillator is known, found by Merzenich years ago. My records for large oscillators aren't organized enough to say if a construction is known. A quick search didn't find one.

It's not a new period but I think it's a new P72 oscillator type.

A note on attribution - I found the p6 and p8 agars (via SAT solver), and noted

both the p6 and this one (the p8 moreso) give the impression of a background with vertically-propagating disturbances, which may be suggestive of a way to make arbitrary even-period phoenix agars

blinkerspawn noticed that those vertically-propagating disturbances were, in fact, behaving according to a XOR rule and the pattern overall was a stripe oscillator XORed with a simple background pattern (Scorbie noted that said background was, in fact, tiled barberpoles), and then a variety of people (myself, blinkerspawn, wildmyron, scorbie, possibly others) have been expanding on that since.

Could someone update the article on phoenixes in Lifewiki accordingly? Can some of these made finite?
