Aside from being a new period, my first thought was how is the period not a multiple of two? Now I see the two halves are out of phase. Nice use of a hassler! I found it helpful to remove the second oscillator and manually shift the beehive back to see what's going on. I wonder if there is a stable catalyst that could somehow push it back and shrink the oscillator (or some other catalyst that could replace the beehive).
I have no idea what Hubi1857's deal is. He is obviously not very interested in CGOL or any cellular automata results as far as I can tell. The quotes are annoying and irrelevant.

That's not so annoying as someone who is interested in CGoL but use it in a so-called "artistic" way, as far as I see.

Yes, I saw it. You may have missed the point that a p23 oscillator is a new result of greater interest to most members of this forum than your vague proclamations about CA and physics.

Hey, the very first feedback I received so far from this splendid forum of CGOL fans was Moosey's reply. And he missed my point, completely. But his reply encouraged me to continue with the thread.
Try again, if you dare, to make sense of the "vague proclamations" of a theoretical and mathematical physicist like me who completely depends on mathematics but is forced to struggle all the time against the ignorance of most of mathematicians.

What was your point, then? To me it seemed like it was saying that the p23 was absolutely useless. I think you missed the point, completely.
A p23 oscillator is exciting because there were previously no other p23s. It's wonderfully new and nontrivial.

This quote is exactly what bothers me about Hubi1857. They carry about an air of "I'm smarter than you guys", and it really rubs some of us the wrong way. Not only because it's assuming things about us, but because it really irritates me to see him just ask Martin Grant, who has always struck me as a clever person, a did-you-know about something that was posted several months ago. It's hard to see a reason behind that other than trying to stick "I'm smarter than you" in our faces. I'm sure you know more about theoretical physics than us, but if you frame that as ignorance, it completely misses the fact that we know more than you do about other subjects.

To be blunt, the question is not whether you enjoy mathematics, but whether others enjoy your musings (and I won't speak for anyone else, but they do little for me). I appreciate that you show the courtesy of putting them in sandbox, just as I put metacomments like this one in sandbox.
The kinds of postings that are most interesting in this forum are those that either solve a specific problem of interest to the community (like realizing a previous unrealized oscillator period!) or very rarely introducing an idea that sparks new interest.
I cannot say I have done much of either in the past 20 years (before which point, I did produce some patterns recorded here) but I understand the audience. Nobody really cares what I enjoy and I don't expect them too. You have to listen, not just talk.
