Rotating life :)

Post by Pilou »

Hello
I am a French guy and I know the Game of life for more 50 years but not very pacticing!
I see from time to time the evolution on computer : So very pleased to see something like Golly 8)
I have also some hobby on 3D
So this can maybe interest you :)
There is a very cool prog QUBICLE who give the possibility to draw very easily your favorite figures and make a rotating view of it with the free basic version of QUBICLE! 8)
I am pretty sure that Tim Wesoly the creator of QUBICLE can make a little plugin or function for import directly your figures inside its Qubicle Constructor ;)
You can of course yet draw it with its crazzy prog! And make some other funny things!
I have made a video (sorry in French but very visual) about Qubicle Constructor!
(I made also the French part of Qubicle!

Here just a little try ;) Maybe you recognize it :)

Have fun discovery of QUBICLE! 8)

About the Conway Game of life: I dreamed or the replication in one generation of a figure is theorically possible but not yet found ? Can you enlight me about that?
Is beautiful that please without concept :)

Hi Pilou!

No, a period-1 replicator is not possible inLife. Such a figure would have to grow at the speed of light, and the fastest rate a finite figure can grow is half of this (c/2).

I don't think that would work even with infinite patterns; an infinite row of cells does work as a replicator, but that has period 2.

If there is any proof against a c/2 replicator of period 2, I'm not aware of it.

Thx for the answer but maybe I was unclear about the term "replication"
In fact i thought of a glider who is reproducted in one generation : is that the same that your answer ?

That is usually called a glider duplicator (or in other CA a signal splitter). A p1 splitter would not be possible because the glider could not reform fast enough...

UNLESS you just meant that the splitter itself (when it is not duplicating) is p1. That would be possible. I think it has been done...

Thx for the answer!
I see that here: Replicator
"A Life object which repeatedly forms copies of itself. Such things are known to be possible in Life, but no example is known."
(so I have an answer :)
but...
I want add "not repeated at the same place, in one generation and the original must die! " so a sort of glider! ;)

That would be what we usually call spaceships, then. This is also impossible due to the speed limit of half the speed of light.

Spaceships of period 2 are possible:

Code: Select all

#N 64P2H1V0
#O Dean Hickerson
#C The smallest period 2 spaceship, discovered on July 28, 1989. Has speed c/2.

OK i see : so a spaceship of period 1 will be one of the solution.

But you say that is impossible due "speed light" limit

I must read some texts about this 1/2 c :)
