Home page of ConwayLife.com loading slowly?

For some reason, I've noticed that lately, the home page specifically of this site has been loading particularly slowly. The LifeWiki and the forums both load fine, but the homepage takes a lot longer to load.

I'm definitely not the only one who's having this problem:

I think it only started happening sometime after the post about Sir Robin was made, so I wonder if that's related somehow...

Happens for me too. Seems odd, because the Sir Robin article doesn't use any resources that aren't there already. An earlier article also uses LifeViewer animations.

Build 239 of LifeViewer is a relatively recent addition, around the same time as that article was posted -- but that version was rolled out to the wiki and the forums at the same time, and I don't think anyone has noticed a big slowdown in either of those places. (?)

Yes, it happens for me too. The only thing I can see on the page that could possibly be causing that slowdown is the LifeViewer embeds, but, yeah, nowhere else have they caused such a slowdown either. Therefore, it may be some bug hidden in the code that's causing this?

I'm fairly sure it's not LifeViewer:

• The Chrome dev tools Network trace shows "Waiting (TTFB) 19.2s" (i.e. the browser waited 19 seconds following the page request for the server to send back the first byte of the page).
• It also shows the page loaded the LifeViewer plugin in about 500ms.
• If you save the page locally and then load it comes up nearly instantly.

It loads in a reasonable amount of time for me as well, what changed?

Yeah, looks like whatever was going on got fixed.
