Arrows

Post by edwardfanboy »

This is a thread for a rule I made called "Arrows".
It is the first rule I made with a von Neumann neighborhood.

Really nice. I have found in it many logic gates (I think all useful):

Code: Select all

x = 49, y = 108, rule = Arrow

It is also not hard to show that Arrows are omniperiodic:

Code: Select all

2.Q.Q$18.Q2.Q.Q$16.2Q3.Q.Q$21.Q.Q$21.Q.Q!
Now I am working on arrow guns, I've found period 3,4 and 6, and I hope I'll find more (maybe Arrows are also omniperiodic on gun periods)
Really cool rule table, and for me best one with von Neumann neighborhood

1.
Let's see those guns.
It comes with a p4 gun already.
2. Thanks.
EDIT: See http://conwaylife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1066 for another rule with Von Neumann neighborhood.

Arrows v2!

Post by edwardfanboy »

This is a new version of Arrows with this added feature:
When a moving arrow collides with a reflector side-on, the reflector moves.
Demo RLE:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 1, rule = ArrowV2
N.G!

Make sure you have the latest version of Golly!

P.S. BIG Thank-you Wojowu for devoting some of his time to prove that Arrows is omniperodic in both oscillators AND guns!

Re: Arrows

I've found a little nice pattern:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 2, rule = ArrowV2
TU$RS!
It can be sticked to itself:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 4, rule = ArrowV2
TUTUTUTU$RSRSRSRS$TUTUTUTU$RSRSRSRS!
It can be made simply into extensible period 3 gun:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 6, rule = ArrowV2
3.A2.A.B$.TUTUTUTU$DRSRSRSRS$.TUTUTUTUB$.RSRSRSRS$.D2.C3.B!
My patterns also work in ArrowV2, so here are they commpressed into one zip file
Two suggestions about new rule table:
1.Flying arrow hitting reflector from back also moves it (maybe also from front, reflecting arrow to from it flown isn't to useful (or maybe moving reflector AND reflecting arrow))
2.Arrows hitting from both sides don't move reflector in either side

Edit:
Working 7-segment display! I've made two versions:
1.Uses only streams of arrows and reflectors in display, and is hard to distinguish between display and "wiring". It can be set by deleting blocker on left under given number. To reset simply put blocker back

Code: Select all

x = 598, y = 565, rule = ArrowV2

That is REALLY weird.
By the way, the last 8 states are reflectors that are currently moving.

Arrows WW

Post by edwardfanboy »

I am going to make another rule-table combining WireWorld and Arrows.
You cannot use normal WireWorld patterns because it will use the von Neumann neighborhood.
Stay tuned!
EDIT: On second thoughts, I will use the original WireWorld. The new CA will have 17 states, 3 for WireWorld, 1 for Blocker, 8 for Arrows and 4 for LCD. Please reply or PM me to add ideas.

EDIT 2: Way too hard. I will omit the WireWorld and just use the LCD idea.

Conway's Life!!!

Post by Wojowu »

Truly saying WireWorld was for me inspiration to build 7-segment display (in my previous post). Now I am trying to make binary counter, which is much harder than my display! I wanted to show that Arrow CA have at least as many computational power as WireWorld (which is limited by finite and nonincreasing bounding box). Arrows can theorethicaly store any integer by moving reflector further and further. WireWorld can only store maximum integer 2^(n-3) where n is number of cells in a pattern

Edit:
Now working on Conway's Life unit cell. Then Arrow can be proven computationally universal by simulating another system which is proven to be computationally universal
