New construction arm design

Post by beebop »

Hello, World!
This is my first post.

One of the problems with 'traditional' (i.e. glider based) construction arms is that they need different BLACK and WHITE 'FIRE' instructions. I have created a construction arm design that moves the block orthogonally so that a shift only moves the resulting glider path by 1hd. It uses xWSS to maneuver the block and shoot gliders.

Currently, most of my salvos are BACK fire salvos or DESTROY salvos, but I hope to find more.

I'd attach the file with the salvos, but it's on another computer that I won't have access to until Monday.

EDIT:
I found one of the files with the salvos in it. It doesn't have all of them, just the ones required for universal construction.

Hmm, interesting. The obvious disadvantage is that XWSS's take up more processing power than gliders.

This is true. The thing that would make this work is small H -> xWSS converters.

Processing power? Please elaborate...

Anyway, the obvious flaw is that *WSSes have a spatial period of 2 (i.e. they are 2c/4), so the 'block' can only be moved by multiples of 2 cells orthogonally, i.e. 2hd. Hence, it has exactly the same amount of freedom as the conventional glider-only design.
What do you do with ill crystallographers? Take them to the mono-clinic!
