Cool idea! Looks like there isn't anything notable from October 2001, so mine would have to be Gabriel Nivasch's tremi- and quasi-pseudo SLs from July of that year. Kind of weird to know that this hobby was being actively researched & developed this long before I had the faintest idea what it was.

Most of the people who were doing Life stuff in the 1990s are probably older than that now, unless they started really young. That would mean pretty much everybody who you might recognize from the Life Lexicon credits from a dozen years ago, many of whom have accounts on the conwaylife forums, though most of them don't post too much: David Bell, Paul Callahan, Dean Hickerson, Hartmut Holzwart, Heinrich Koenig, Mark Niemiec, Tom Rokicki, Andrew Trevorrow, Bill Gosper, etc.

I'm a latecomer to the Life scene -- only got really properly started in the current millenium, not the last one, with one brief exception in the early 1980's -- but I'm pretty close to that old.

I wasn't around for the discovery of the glider, which was actually sometime in 1969 if you read Conway's biography, even though he rounded all the Life discovery stuff to 1970. But I do predate the first glider gun by somewhat over half a year.

Not sure when Conway got around to following the life histories of all the heptominoes, there isn't a very good timeline for those early investigations -- but let's just say that my birth pattern is the (sadly misnamed) Herschel.
