signal wireworld

Post by ssaamm »

This is like wireworld, but it allows for much more complicated things, including crossovers.

Code: Select all

# sigww
# signal wireworld

# There are 2 kinds of signals, blue and pink.
# The pink signal occurs when two blue signals collide.
# The blue signal occurs when two pink signals collide.
# Only the blue signal can go near the green cells

var d={0,1,2,3,4,5}
var e={0,1,2,3,4,5}
var f={0,1,2,3,4,5}
var g={0,1,2,3,4,5}
var h={0,1,2,3,4,5}
var i={0,2,3,5}
var j={0,2,3,5}
var k={0,2,3,5}
var l={0,2,3,5}

I'm sure I'm totally over-complicating it, but here is a crossover:

You can have crossovers in ordinary Wireworld...

Interesting concept, and though that crossover looks pretty, I'd quite like to see something a bit more useful.

This is why signature character limits are pointless.

I wasn't aware of crossovers in regular wireworld.
What would be considered useful in a new kind of wireworld?

Oh, also, Here is an insanely simple crossover (tiled 4x):

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 15, rule = sigww
6.C8.C$5.EC7.EC$6.C8.C$6.C.C3.C2.C3.E$6C.8C.5C$.E.C.C4.E3.C2.C$6.C8.C
$5.EC7.EC$6.C8.C$6.C.C3.C2.C3.E$6C.8C.5C$.E.C.C4.E3.C2.C$6.C8.C$6.CE
7.CE$6.C8.C!

The simplest one is this:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 21, rule = wireworld
4.8C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C.C6.C$2.10C$
2.C2.C$2.10C$3.C.C6.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.A8.C$3.B8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.C$3.C8.
C$4.8C!
The 3*XOR crossover also works, but is substantially larger.

What would be considered useful in a new kind of wireworld?
Perhaps the only computation that ordinary Wireworld can't do -- expand its memory.

So you're saying I could make a wireworld capable of modifying the very wires it goes on? That would be fun to make! And if I do it right, it could allow for potentially infinite computation! I'll set to working on a construction standard. Also, I think that someone should database all the known useful components in wireworld so that I avoid making a mistake like this again.

If you made universal construction in Wireworld, I would kiss you.

Alan Tennant has already made a version of Wireworld with universal construction, and I've built a replicator in it:

Well, I guess I've been beaten timewise, but I'm coming up with some pretty interesting and different ideas for this, so hold tight, I'm going to try some crazy stuff 8)

If you could make a universal constructor-capable WireWorld rule with less states then everyone would love you! ;)

Oh my gosh, I always used the 3 XOR gate based crossover! Wow, that's cool! Thanks!

EDIT: Wait, it doesn't support two crossing at the same time. It still works for many purposes though.

I tried to make a version of WireworldJVN with universal construction, and it did not work since I did not have the Moore neighborhood and it could not distinguish perpendicular from parallel. I gave up on it, but I have firgured out that, without sheathing, it would take 30 (!) kinds of signals to make a CA capable of universal construction, and 65 + 4 = 69 states total:

0 blank
1 copper wire
2 construction cell
3 electron tail
4 move forward, leave copper
5 turn right, leave copper
6 turn right (and) forward, leave copper
7 turn right, left, and forward, leave copper
8 move back, leave copper
...
34 construction cell going forward and leaving copper
35 construction cell turning right and leaving copper
...
64 construction cell turning in all the directions at one and leaving no copper
65 delete construction cell ahead
66 delete construction cell to the right
67 delete construction cell to the left
68 delete construction cell to the back of the signal (This is probably not neccessary)
