I don't want to discourage you from experimenting and discovering things, but it looks like you're getting started on another string of dozens of short postings.

Can you explain why you didn't respond to anyone's replies yesterday? Again, it would be really good if you could spend a lot more time between your posts, thinking about whether a discovery is really worth posting. Please organize your ideas into a smaller number of posts, at least.

Here's one more example of the problem -- though people took a lot of time to give good examples yesterday, so I'm really hoping you read those posts also.

Anyone who wants a random pentadecathlon predecessor can spend a few minutes with JavaLifeSearch and generate thousands of these, all just about as good as yours (as far as I can see). So... why did you draw attention to this particular pattern?

-----------------------------

Also, when you post known patterns, please at least mention where you copied them from. Please don't just say that you "found" them. Otherwise people will tend to think you're claiming a new discovery, and waste time looking to see if it's really new.

It seems unlikely that you rediscovered the p3 spaceships by hand. The 29-cell one is not new (it's in jslife). I'm not sure about the other one, but there doesn't seem to be any point in checking. That's the point where I'm deciding to stop paying attention to anything you post.

If too many people stop paying attention, then you've lost your audience. Please be more careful.

I found that yesterday
This is called 24.1937771. I found that around 20 years ago, along with the 4051725 other 24-cell still-lifes. As I had previously mentioned, all still-lifes up to 24 cells have been exhaustively searched by computer decades ago.

Perhaps he's saying that he 'found' the patterns in some other post on these forums?

Very likely. It seemed worth trying to explain what happens when s/he doesn't take the time to explain the context, in all these very short postings.

@fsrm, can you please respond directly to this question? Where, or how, did you find the second p/3 spaceship?

Just a question out of curiosity, it's not important. But it would be nice to know that you're reading all these responses to your posts.

Thanks! That makes things clearer.

Here's a collection of small c/3 spaceships that Sokwe organized last year, in this same thread. You can look up your new discoveries based on the phase of the spaceship with the smallest number of ON cells.

Most people who post a c/3 spaceship do the extra work first, to see if it has been found before. Spaceships found with a few minutes of searching with WLS are very, very likely to be already known.

Either that or they are larger spaceships -- so large that it's pretty much impossible to keep track of them all. Sokwe cut off his collection at 50 bits. You've posted an 87-bit and a 120-bit c/3 along with the known 29-bit one. If there is anything special about those new ones, it would be good to mention that in your posting. Otherwise they will just get lost among the thousands or millions of c/3 spaceships of those sizes.

Can you find any c/3 spaceships that are 50 cells or smaller, that are not in Sokwe's collection?

Or, what would be nice, a spaceship that is not one of the already known speeds?

I understand your frustration, but please do try to remain calm.

I've edited several of my posts ten times before, and one post I even edited 144 times. The edit button exists for a reason; use it!

12^2 edits? 'Twas the top message of the famous 17-bit SL Syntheses thread, naturally.

By the time the 18-bit syntheses came around, Extrementhusiast wasn't such a newbie any more, so only 2^7-1 edits were needed there.
