hand-found catalyst using twoprongs(I didn’t invent the name but I like it),looks like a possible start:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 24, rule = B3/S23-a5

Definitely not spam
P38 gun is constructed :) Now is P23 next?

I managed to dig up an old discussion of B3/S23-a5i by Confocaloid's rule database:
qqd wrote: May 26th, 2023, 10:37 am The closest marglous-emulating rule to life, MarglousLife: B3/S23-a5i (Probably most of this is already known, but I haven't found it in searches)
Glider and the T-life spaceship are present in this rule, as well as the short and long blinkers:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 3, rule = B3/S23-a5i
bo4b3o3b3o3b4o$2bo4bo$3o!
Loaf push reaction:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 5, rule = B3/S23-a5i
b2o$o2bo$obo5bo$bo6b2o$8bo!
p12 partial:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 11, rule = B3/S23-a5i
2bo$bobo$2obo$2bo4$2bo$2obo$bobo$2bo!
A p12 oscillator by combining 2 copies of the partial(6 generations later):

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5i
2bo5bo$b2o5b2o$o2bo3bo2bo$b2o5b2o2$b2o5b2o$o2bo3bo2bo$b2o5b2o$2bo5bo!
This oscillator can act as a glider eater:

Code: Select all

x = 21, y = 19, rule = B3/S23-a5i
19bo$18bo$18b3o8$2bo5bo$b2o5b2o$o2bo3bo2bo$b2o5b2o2$b2o5b2o$o2bo3bo2bo
$b2o5b2o$2bo5bo!
Speaking of eaters, eater 1 can eat a glider in 2 ways: The standard 'B3/S23' way and the boat-bit reaction:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5i
bo10bo$2bo8bo$3o8b3o3$4b2o4b2o$4bo5bo$5b3o3b3o$7bo5bo!
It can also eat that T-life spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 7, rule = B3/S23-a5i
bo$2o$bo$6b2o$6bobo$8bo$8b2o!
The thumb spark the eater produces right before recovering allows it to eat two synchronized T-life spaceships at once:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5i
3bo$2b2o$3bo$8b2o$8bobo$10bo$bo8b2o$2o$bo!
EDIT: 3G syntheses for a beehive and an eater, both somewhat rare in this rule:

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 20, rule = B3/S23-a5i
bo30bobo$o31b2o$3o30bo8$3b2o18b3o$3bobo3bo15bo$3bo4b2o14bo$8bobo4$21b
2o$20bobo$22bo!
EDIT2: And a 3G synthesis for that T-life spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 15, y = 19, rule = B3/S23-a5i
12bobo$12b2o$13bo8$3b3o$5bo$4bo4$3o$2bo$bo!
EDIT3: And a 3G synthesis of a boat, still rare:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 18, rule = B3/S23-a5i
2bo$3bo7bo$b3o6bo$10b3o12$bo$b2o$obo!
Combining the two syntheses above produces a spectacular 6G synthesis for a 'long-blinker-bridge-long-blinker' (Now THIS is extremely rare):

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 22, rule = B3/S23-a5i
12bobo$12b2o$13bo2$24bo$25bo7bo$23b3o6bo$32b3o3$3b3o$5bo$4bo4$3o$2bo$b
o$23bo$23b2o$22bobo!
EDIT4: This large p64 Marglous oscillator can convert a glider into that T-life spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 162, y = 155, rule = B3/S23-a5i

As with almost any Marglous-emulating rule, there are high-period 2x2 oscillators you can discover in this rule simply by placing lines of 2x2 blocks.
There's a lot you can do by just reassembling known components.

Really? I couldn't find anything over 20 cells that had sparks that were useful for an oscillator its size in a quick check below period 10, except this:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = B3/S23-a5

4bo3bo$5b2o$5b2o!
But this doesn't have a label because I don't know what to call it. If you have any ideas for the 'spark' it makes that aren't already taken, say them.

By best sparkers I mean anything with period <10 that emits a spark of decent clearance; it doesn’t have to have good population or bounding box efficiency. E.X the toaster variant or the p3 squirter

Really? I couldn't find anything over 20 cells that had sparks that were useful for an oscillator its size in a quick check below period 10, except this:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = B3/S23-a5

Here is a collection of all the sparkers that I found in the collection that didn't have any name (note 68P8T isn't included as I renamed it to P8 T squirter in the updated collection, will submit early next month), excluding ones that have the exact same spark as a smaller oscillator of the same period:

R2INT wrote: October 16th, 2026, 8:46 pm I have recently returned to my c/8o width-9 search. Currently, it's at depth 73.
I have split the search into 128 smaller searches, attached below. As of this post, I am currently running br-00001.
This feels like a good time to finally update my qfind.

It doesn’t need to not have a name. I just need low-period powerful sparkers. Name or nameless, I need sparkers

All powerful sparkers have names in the collection. Search for P(n) sparker, P(n) pipsquirter, P(n) block sparker, or P(n) toaster, or just go through the collection manually until you find what you are looking for. But I still made a collection of powerful sparkers for you :mrgreen:
The only exception I could find was the 'strictly volatile p6', which is a strong corner sparker, 44P7T, which will be renamed to P7 block sparker, and 88P7T, which I don't know what to rename to (last p7)
While doing this I accidentally noticed a p4 at the bottom of the p5 section :oops:

Post by LuveelVoom »

Searches have begun on branch 008. I'm using base qfind (well, not quite. It's base qfind plus a small modification to give it the memory-time elapsed readouts that qlaudefind has) just to be sure that it's exhaustive. I guess I'm not running any other searches today :?

Edit: I just accidentally quit it after 150 CPU hours.

F**k.
I didn't have saving turned on either.

Yeah I'm not gonna be participating in this one sorry guys

AND it got to depth 1150. AND it was narrowing. asbdgihabgihasbgoihfbgsihgb AGSVWSDGUAVFGUYAVUDFVGADVGFA

Hmm. It could actually be near finding a spaceship or could just be at a near-spaceship. I would recommend running it for maybe a fortnight or however long you are willing to do so, and if it doesn't complete by then, then keeping the dump files and switching to another branch.
EDIT: Something to note is that my br-00010 branch finished in <6 hours on just 8 threads, but the br-00011 branch is still going after ~24 hours, so branches seem to vary in size.
EDIT 2: 20->24 hours

Dumb question related to the c/8 search: Does splitting the search guarantee that a complete spaceship can be found in one of the branches? Or does each branch combined only encompass a fraction of the potential search?

And while we're on the topic, I might as well post my longest branch 7 partial.

I'm pretty sure that it guarantees that a spaceship will be found in that width if it exists. In other words, the branches encompass the entire search.
