Billabob wrote:Nice rule! Here's an interesting oscillator that can be modified to produce oscillators of a few other periods:
Code: Select all
x = 6, y = 4, rule = 345/25678/7
2.A$.4A$F.A.B$.EDC!
I've seen that in other CAs, but the usual method of extending it isn't working. How did you? In other news, this produces a spaceship.
Code: Select all
x = 7, y = 5, rule = 345/25678/7
.EF$D.A2.A$C6A$B.A2.A$.A!
Edit 1; I also found this strange oscillator in the wild, I don't know what period (is there any easy way to check?)
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 5, rule = 345/25678/7
2.D$.EAE$DF3A$EB2AF$.F.DC!
Edit 2;

I found four oscillators in the wild and they all seem to be different! They're all based around a block. Are there more of them or did I just happen to stumble upon all four close together? Must test! (I haven't done any searching on this rule yet)
Code: Select all
x = 60, y = 58, rule = 345/25678/7
6.AFBA$6.B2AF$6.F2AB$6.ABFA10$6.FD.F$7.2AB$6.D2AD$6.CFAC27$54.DEBA$
55.2AF$54.E2AB$54.ABFA7$3.ADAC$3.B2AD$2.AE2AB$3.BC.F!
Edit 3; (wow this rule is interesting) This simple seed spawns some growing puffers which look extremely like the replicators.
Code: Select all
x = 6, y = 2, rule = 345/25678/7
2A2.2A$2A2.2A!
Edit 4; I also found this thing. Don't ask me what to use it for, I just found it interesting.
Code: Select all
x = 34, y = 46, rule = 345/25678/7

I also found this thing. I call it "The Meatball".

Edit 6;
I also found this Oscillator puffer.

All of these were found by placing blocks and dominoes near each other (in both symmetric and nonsymmetric patterns). I find it yields great results, especially when you want to find things like the replicator in the first post.
