Let's open a gift shop

All my gliders so far. Unfortunately, I have a lot of trouble with bubbles in resin. There are three variations on the mold, including one where I left the 3d print texture. One of them is cast in paraffin. I find that I usually have enough leftover material from some other project to cast one of these instead of wasting it. I still need to do better on clarity.

Note: if anyone is in the SF Bay Area and wants one (for free!), you can meet me in Mountain View or in San Francisco, where I go to the office 2 days a week. You can DM. (I'm serious. I have other plastic stuff too.)

It may be time to cast other glider phases. Still life ice cube molds are another idea. That requires a little more thought.

Another idea: decorative motifs based on dense symmetric still life patterns. I printed this one very small as a test, but it could be printed 10cm in diameter as a coaster or cast in clear resin. There is nothing unique about this pattern, but the conditions of symmetry, density, and the still life condition make it look intentional.

Finally, the surface is generated from a height map of this image. I construct a Voronoi diagram of the live cell positions and then intersect each Voronoi cell with a circular disk centered at the point. The radius is chosen so Moore neighborhood cells are connected. The effect is a little different from what we are used to seeing, because the cells appear to be squashed in one direction. Still life constraints are visible though.

There is a small bug in the (Claude-generated) code that affects the boundaries of cells on the fringe. I will fix that next.

A coaster is kind of a boring application but it might look good in glossy clear resin in the window. Alternatively, a food safe silicone mold could be used for chocolate. Maybe there is a way to make a waffle iron from this, since that's the closest match.

I finally got around to making a mold for the other phase of the glider up to symmetry. You can make a mold for the symmetric phases just by printing a mirror image, or you can flip the pieces themselves upside down.

You need to add a few extra drops of silicone in the mold after curing to get the smooth tops.

This time, the resin had no obvious bubbles. I think it's because the ambient temperature of the house is much higher this time of year. We don't run AC.

I've got a WeChat Shop with catalog, cart, and payment all set up. Not sure if it'll work on your FAV net sub-domain though — it's pretty much confined to WeChat. What do you think?

I am not particularly interested in doing E-commerce - my main monetization interest is the Stock Market.
