EDIT by dvgrn: Moved this over to the "speculative" thread, because the extra catalysts seemed to be resolutely non-Blonkic and non-Eonian. There might be a better place for it than this thread, if a U-to-X connector can be shown to work after this conduit (I haven't looked). Or I can move it back if it's somehow more on-topic than it seems -- just report this post with an explanation.

Huh. The right side of that bottom catalyst is pretty flexible: there's sufficient room to fit other catalysts or weld. Example of what I mean:

Since the glider producing switch engine makes glider by producing Herschels, you can extract signals from it with known conduits.
If someone suppress the debris on the other side we will have a switch engine to switch engine and a Herschel. If we have to we could try to add it to part of a switch engine wave with a swimmers lane at the other end and get a mutiple switch engines to multiple switch engines and a Herschel. Preferably we can just suppress the debris more directly. We could also some how use the herschel out put to suppress the debris, but that would cost us the Herschel output which is kind of the point.
The pattern demonstrates connecting conduits to glider producing switch engine.

e9jp is a bit of an unusual case where census.rle doesn't tell the full story. If you were to check census.rle, e9jp is positioned #531, which is so far down that you probably wouldn't expect any X-to-e9jp conduits at all. Note that this property is not unique to e9jp — a more common active region that has a similar phenomenon is the Herschel. Just by looking at census.rle alone, you would expect Herschels to be about as common as doves, butterflies, or octomino IIs. However, Herschels appear way more often in conduits than census.rle alone would suggest. This is because there is one particular way that almost all output Herschels in conduits form — by evolving out of a B-heptomino.

Indeed, conduits that directly output lone Herschels without going it evolving out of an internal B-heptomino are fairly rare (e.g. Fx158). However, there are a lot of conduits that output B-heptominos, whether clean, dirty, or through a sacrificial block. A clean B-heptomino can be turned into a Herschel using BFx59H, which itself contains an internal B-heptomino (e.g. L112, F117, Fx153). In the case of a dirty B-heptomino, the active region behind can remove the extra block from the B (e.g. R64, F116, F171). And some conduits have a transparent block placed exactly where a B would leave it while evolving into a Herschel (e.g. Fx77, Fx119, Fx176).

I also think this can also be though of in the inverse, especially since B-heptominos end up being somewhat uncommon as conduit outputs (I don't think there is a good universal set of B-heptomino conduits that never evolve into herschels, even though the B itself is far more common in random soups and patterns - while there are hundreds if not thousands of interchangeable conduits whose outputs are pure herschels).

Additionally, I do think it would be easier to manipulate an active region into a more useful output that it is to reverse the input and attempt to get an output. That is why a bunch of new conduits appeared as soon as an H-to-E heptomino was found.

Likewise, if 1 more e9jp-producing reaction was discovered (lacking the known pi catalyst), it would likely result in a new set of connectable conduits since it probably would present very different characteristics from the known one.
