What features did Hersrch have, and what features would have been useful to have? I'm trying to write a similar script for conduit creation using lifelib.

Are there any search programs that can search for Gardens of Eden in INT?
Are there any search programs that can search for fully volatile or strictly volatile oscillators in INT?
Are there any search programs that can search for crawlers in INT?

You can just rewind until you get a GoE.
The rest should be doable with lifelib.

I realized there's a big space-time tradeoff in spaceship searching. One way to deal with that is using the Meet-in-the-Middle attack, in my other field of expertise, I've seen that MitM allows a 2^64 brute force that will normally take years to take less then a minute in WASM.
(Note: I'm not meaning this as a modification to the xfind family of programs. They already use way too much memory.)
Is there a way to apply MitM to spaceship searching?

Could EPE be updated in the future to allow searching for a specific pattern x transitions away from a certain rule?

It doesn’t seem to work. As far as I know, EPE’s rule definitions only allow a minrule and maxrule; these have nothing to do with distance from a certain rule. As an example, if I wanted to list all rules one transition away from Life, then, to allow all transitions to be used, the rule range would have to be B/S - B012345678/S012345678. However, not all rules within this range are one transition from Life, and modifiying the rulespace to remove unnecessary rules would also cut down the number of actual 1TfL rules listed.

I need to find diagonal ships in repsplosion

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but how to make a custom ruletable? for example, star wars, but 1st off state is brian's brain, and 2nd off state is life

The format for .rule files are shown here:

Write your rule in a new text document, then save it as <your rule name>.rule.

To use your file in Golly, first open Golly and press , (comma key) to open preferences. In the preferences window, click "Control". Then find the folder shown next to the "Your Rules..." button. Golly looks for .rule files in this folder. Move your original .rule file into that folder. Now, Golly will be able to find that rule whenever you want to use it.

To use your file in LifeViewer, paste the .rule file after the RLE in the input text for LifeViewer, and it should be able to find and use your custom rule.

If you want to request a rule to be made for you, you should do it in the Rule request thread.

Why does this script seem to have bugs when in the rule B2cn3ay4aijrt5-eiqy6a78/S12ei3ejnry4aijr5iy6ik7c8? For example there is a line which says

EDIT by Andrew: I've deleted that script. It was a corrupted version of the oscar.py script supplied with Golly (which correctly detects the above pattern to be a period-6 oscillator).

For rules with <=27 states:
. = State 0
A = State 1
B = State 2
C = State 3

The encoding of runs is the same as normal.
Example (manually typed out):

It’s a bit more complicated with more than 27 states, but it’s easy to figure out if you grab a random ruletable with lots of states and do some manual experimentation.
