I don't have any new circuitry, but just some thoughts --

There are two frequent symmetrical reactions that I think could become conduit objects, but they're of course a bit harder to find inputs and outputs for than the W and X. I don't have names or initials for them:

The one on the left is the same reaction that forms part of the xq3 seed I used in the gun. The one on the right is the engine of the p106 and p96 oscillators that Silversmith and I found. Perplexingly, the one on the left seems to appear a lot after something is destroyed and not as often as a result of stable catalyses, although I've found a few conduits that output it stably nonetheless -- just usually too close to the conduit to be useful. I'm really happy to have a ->U conduit with clearance, but even then this one's actually not very good. Its repeat time is 549 and it also doesn't *quite* enable the two-engine xq3 gun I was envisioning, because the synthesis of the ship messes with the catalysis that those top two long loaves were supposed to perform, and there isn't a good angle to clean the synthesis up from like that heart SL allowed for in the other gun:

Needs a different catalysis up top to seal the deal, which I'll try to hunt for. Thank you Silversmith for this circuitry, by the way (: I couldn't get this to work with any of the other ->W conduits found so far -- none of them feed into the W->2W splitter I'm using on the right-hand gun for clearance.

Speaking of that catalysis, I had to find it by hand to complete the conduit because I couldn't get ntcatforce to work at all. I used Para's MAP generator, so assuming that part all works fine I have to assume my input file is the problem. This one below is a simplified attempt to get the program to just output anything (i.e. ideally place a do-nothing catalyst and declare victory because I didn't tell it what specifically to do with that catalyst), but even this returns zero results. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I'd like to use ntcatforce to complete the gun eventually, but I definitely have to be comfortable using it first.

Unfortunately, though, it looks like the SL is common enough that Catagolue doesn't display any soups for it. (Similarly, Catagolue could be helpful for finding ways to create a D if it were possible to look for the specific constellation of diamonds it terminates in, but no dice and I also had no luck trying to mod apgsearch to recognize constellations a while ago :()

Lastly, another naming question -- in the ntcatforce file above I called these two eaters "small rectangle" and "eater". Any preferences for better names? (Especially if there's anything that rolls off the tongue better than "rectangle", since that would let us better name the whole family of rect-shaped SLs. Something like plank, slab, brick? Or fence, wall, dam?)

This seems really easy to make a gun for because, playing around with it, it looks like none of the cleanup required for those two diamonds interferes with the xq3-producing part. (EDIT: Oh, actually, it's technically an over-unity reaction...)

My own tentative naming calls, by the way (this bold formatting looks LLM-y but it's just me):
  • Slab: Any hollow convex shape
  • Plank: Any (impressionistically) narrow slab
  • Brick: The smallest plank (and smallest slab)
  • No instinct for easier ways to refer to some of the wackier-looking SLs that come up.
  • Horse: The common asymmetric xq3 (looks like a horse)
    • EDIT: I thought this had gone unnoticed but apparently rabbit pointed it out last year, at which time my response was that I thought it looked like a pig (??). I'm full horse now.
  • Bam diamond: Still don't like this name for the diamond slab a bam produces. What, "bamslab"? (Not a fan)
    • ^This predated my rename from "bam" to "blam". Tentatively now I like "blamshell".

The p137 from catagolue can be broken into parts. I think that weird pi-shaped nonomino could be useful as a signal for conduits.
We already can convert to it and back from the x via parts from the p137 oscillator.

Unfortunately, though, it looks like the SL is common enough that Catagolue doesn't display any soups for it. (Similarly, Catagolue could be helpful for finding ways to create a D if it were possible to look for the specific constellation of diamonds it terminates in, but no dice and I also had no luck trying to mod apgsearch to recognize constellations a while ago :()

Renaming this one to "blam" instead of bam ("blam" sounds sillier and also easier to conceive of as a name). I'm the only person who's ever used bam, so I went through this thread and edited all my former uses. The diamond it creates can be a "blamshell" (like clamshell).

(I also have to fix the conduit collection to use "B" rather than "X" so that we can reserve X for "any signal")

From Catagolue it seems it makes up 0.003% of C1 objects but 0.03% of D4_+1 objects. The latter figure is definitely inflated by soups where it forms instantly at one of the edges, but it tells us that any reaction that naturally develops D4_+1 symmetry is amenable to producing a 3c/6, right? I wonder if a 'direct' (elementary?) gun for it that works similarly to these...? Not actually via the same mechanism, of course:

It strikes me that, were ships more common in this rule, TW-on-TW interactions would be producing them left and right. I tried a gencols search just to make sure and of course couldn't find a statorless gun. Presumably there are gajillions of statorless other-signal-generators, though. I wish I had a better idea of what this rule's circuitry would look like (p86-based? stable? Corderoids as signals or some smaller spaceship?)

It ended up in the stamp collection with a yet-different stator. I reduced everything in the stamp collection along these lines:

Edit: Might start referring to the two double-wham(my?) variants as wham-to-wham (symbol W-W) and wham-by-wham (symbol W|W), the first one for when they're end-to-end and the second for when they're side-by-side. Feels easier to remember and write out than "DW(L)" and "DW(W)" respectively. The jarlid producer above is then specifically the wham-by-wham (W|W).

(Amusingly if you chop off the first "wham" in those names you end up with ~homophones for "two-wham" and "bi-wham".)

Has this been discovered? I was playing with some nearby rules and found that this also works in Wham World

Yes! That's "the small 3c/6" I was referring to a couple posts ago. Check out the stamp collections in the first post to get up to speed. You can also scroll through some of the Catagolue censuses.

Incidentally I was just looking at this ship's appearance in this C1_spaceinvaders soup from one of katrina's old hauls, which produces it from a simple seed of a U + a W predecessor which if left alone (without the specific way the soup perturbs it) produces one of those unstable c/2 frontends that just dies. ntcatforce just found this osc placement:

Don't know if this means gun. It does make me hopeful that there's a really quick single-signal-to-3c/6 converter out there somewhere (even if it's periodic).

EDIT: Looking at variants again for the fun of it, just one-INT-transition-off. +S4t has a HighLifey whamrep. +S6c has a fun spinner and common gliders, but not much soup activity. -B6a is interesting, it has common wham corderoids (I even got a breeder off a Golly soup) and retains all of the rule's other common objects while also making the 3c/6 way more common. -B6n has similarly intriguingly active soup behavior and gliders but nothing interesting wham-wise other than that it's a different huge spark. -B5r has a fun spinner. -B4w has interesting SL welds. +B4y is explosive but has an interesting orthogonal ship and an interesting diagonal one (could maybe be tamed?). +B4t has a blinker puffer, a cool diagonal ship, and more propensity for those c/2 frontends to not die out. +B3k has this lovely 32c/1280 and nothing(?) else (edit: aside from a p32):

Something along the lines of "Cyberman"? I feel like it looks a bit like the cybermen in doctor who. A face on the inside, surrounded by metal.
