Thread for your naming proposals of non-CGoL unnamed patterns and rules

Post by HotWheels9232 »

For B2ein3.../S1c......... I think ComRep would work, as mentioned un ther thread.

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 9, rule = B34q/S23-k
bo$ob2o$2bo2bo$bo4b2o$2bo3b2o$bo4b2o$2bo2bo$ob2o$bo!
Thus ship has 666 in it's apgcode and the back spark so maybe "Beast"? Or maybe small dart.
My rules:
B34q/S23-k(ObliquePufferLife) and
B2n3-n4c5c/S234cz5cPM me to get some help on making rules!

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 5, rule = B3-k/S23

Do you mean B2ein3cijn4cnrwy5cnq6e/S1c2-ai3acny4anqy5c6ek8? If so, that rule is already named Einstein.

That is a problem because searching would yield Albert Einstein instead of the rule(or maybe the Ein Stein problem)

That rule already has an established name, which is mentioned on the forum and on Catagolue. Forum search can be used to find it, even though there are unrelated results.

If is gets harder to find, we need name change.

The reason it's hard to find (I think) is because the thread is named B2ein...6ek8 instead of Einstein.

So I thought it wasn't named.

Naming of B35/S23 objects
Note: None of these names are official and you do not have to use them, but it is easier to use their names.

I honestly want to consider names for this rule. Got any ideas?

Bumping this because I think its needed.
I could've chose a better username, but oh well.

I think I've learned the ropes of cellular automata. My current interest is range-two LTLs.

There are a couple rules from a long time ago where patterns had been given names, but they have never been used much in part since a lot of them conflict with names in B3/S23. I had some thoughts on how to adapt these to be easier to use while still hopefully respecting the originals, which I wanted to share, with apologies if it's overstepping.

For 3-4 Life (B34/S34) a few names are offered in Lifeline. Many more are given by Niemiec's page and Eisenmann's page, it is hard to say in which order. Much more recently squareroot12621 made up some names on this forum which I have not listed but did look through. I have suggestions for these little ones:

Code: Select all

x=43, y=14, rule=S34/B34
11bo8b3o7b3o8bo$2o8b2o19bo7b2o$b2o9bo8bo9bo8b3o$40bo7$bo8bo9bo9b3o7bo$3o8b2o6b4o7b2o8b2o$bo7bobo9bo8bo9b2o$11bo28bo!
Row 1: p2s
  1. Existing names: Ant, Bleeper, Z.
    Suggestion: Bleeper (oldest and unambigous).
  2. Existing names: Blinker (taken), Fish (also a word for spaceships), Y.
    Suggestion: Y flipper (there is also a Y pentomino but it is not easy to flip).
  3. Existing names: Flip-flop (also used for the category), Semi blinker, Small T, Yoyo (also applied to a larger variant).
    Suggestion: Yo-yo flipper (disambiguating from the larger one which does not flip).
  4. Existing names: Blinker (taken), T.
    Suggestion: T flipper.
  5. Existing names: Clock (taken), Duck.
    Suggestion: Duck.
Row 2: higher periods
  1. Existing names: Diamond (taken), Star (taken).
    Suggestion: Twinkler (as something unused that little stars and diamonds in the sky are known to do).
  2. Existing names: Pinwheel (taken), Semi duck; introduced as "an alien life form" which is really the whole category.
    Suggestion: Duckling (as a less precise-seeming alternative to semi).
  3. Existing names: Blade, Hexafrob.
    Suggestion: Hexafrob (works well for both period and minimum cell count).
  4. Existing names: Loaf (taken), Rocker.
    Suggestion: Rocker.
  5. Existing names: Glider (works but really means the category).
    Suggestion: Slider (similar word that applies well to movement).
For LowLife (B3/S13) the names creeper, sidewinder, and fighter for spaceships are well established. As pointed out by I6_I6 on its topic, Heudin's 1996 paper on the rule also gives a couple names for oscillators that seem like they are worth considering too.

Code: Select all

x=44, y=18, rule=S13/B3
bo11bo7b3o8bo7bobo$o2b2o6bo2bo5bo3bo8b2o5bo2bo$bo9bob2o18b2o5bo2bo$11b2o19bo8bo8$b2o7bobobobobobobobobobobobobobo$3bo7bobobo
bobobobobobobobobobobo4$10b2o2bo2bo2bo2bo2bo2bo2bo2b2o$12b2ob2ob2ob2ob2ob2ob2ob2o!
Row 1: p4s and p10
  1. Heudin's name: Blinker (taken).
    Suggestion: Turn signal (synonym that goes well with appearance).
  2. Heudin's name: Tumbler (taken).
    Suggestion: Trembler (similar word that better describes movement).
  3. Heudin's name: Twister (can be used as is, though Pingpong has also been suggested).
  4. Heudin's name: Rattle (can be used as is).
  5. Heudin's name: Alien clock (confusing since clock is taken).
    Suggestion: Swinger (used by LittleLWSS; works as a reference to a pendulum, which seems like the most clock-like thing about this).
Rows 2-3: p2s
  1. Heudin's name: none, and I do not know of any but it seems like it should have one.
    Suggestion: Bender (to go with names like blinker and bleeper; the polyplet is called a banana but that also applies to sparks and p1s).
  2. Heudin's name: Barberpole (taken).
    Suggestion: Bana wick (since it repeats the first two of three cells in a banana polyplet).
  3. Heudin's name: none.
    Suggestion: Banana wick (by analogy with the above).
I hope at least one or two of those might be of some use here.

These are just members of an infinite family of similar objects. Basically, any string of 1-cell and 2-cell parts works, if it's stabilized on both ends correctly.

Code: Select all

x = 49, y = 18, rule = B3/S13
2bo4b2o4bo6bob2o4bobo6b2o2b2o2b2o$2o3b2o4b2ob2o2b2obo4b2obob2o2b2o2b2o

3$36bo2bobo2bobo$35bob2obob2obob2o!
I think that a single name for this whole family should be sufficient. If it's necessary to distinguish between family members, we can add a number representing its length and a letter (or letters) to represent the particular variant: bender 4a, bender 6c, and so on. Some rules for the letter classification would be needed, but it shouldn't be too hard.

Also, I'm not sure if I like the name "turn signal". Signals are a well established concept in CA, does this oscillator actually turn any signals?
