A range-two Larger than Life rule, fairly similar to one I've posted here before, except I think this might be a little bit better, so I'm thinking of calling it "HighPottery" or just moving the Pottery name to this rule.

Code: Select all

x = 64, y = 64, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
!
#C [[ RANDOMIZE ]]
It differs from Pottery only by a new birth transition and a new survival transition.

Features

It has an elementary c/3d and less common c/6o, and a much rarer c/2o, c/4d, and sparky 6c/24o. It shares all of these with Pottery.

Code: Select all

x = 58, y = 5, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
2b2o5b3o16b3o8b2o5b2o7bo$b4o4b3o15b4o8b3o3b3o6b3o$2o2bo3bo3bo14bo3bo6b

!
The common period oscillators are pretty boring.

Code: Select all

x = 26, y = 6, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
2b2o18b2o$bo2bo7b2o7bo2bo$o4bo6b2o7b3obo$o4bo6b2o6b2obobo$bo2bo7b2o7b
4o$2b2o18bo!
Even a few of the high-period oscillators don't seem very useful.

Code: Select all

x = 43, y = 15, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
2bo2bo$bo4bo$o6bo$2o4b2o$b2o2b2o11b3o13b2o$17bo3bo12b2o$18bobo12b3o$19b

However, there is a sparky period-50 oscillator.

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 8, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
2bo$obo$b2o$b2o2$4b4o$bo2b2o$6bo!
And, not carried over from Pottery, a useful period-160 reflectorless rotating oscillator.

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 5, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18

Apparently this period-100 in C2_1 was hiding from me.

Code: Select all

The four most common still lifes. The hollow 4 x 3 one seems to be specifically good at eating and catalysis.

Code: Select all

x = 39, y = 5, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18

5bo2bo5b2o$19b2o7b4o!
Recurring evolutionary sequence. It stabilizes into a c/3d, a 9x9 block, and that hollow eater after 164 generations. Reminds me a lot of Herschel.

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 5, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18
3o$3o$3o$3o$o!
Technology

Since the p160 is so sparky and high-period, it can be used for many reactions, including eating, reflecting, and converting.

Here are a few interesting reactions (the rightmost one was found by yyh_baboon.

Code: Select all

x = 148, y = 31, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18

I haven't done as much with the period-50, but it should also be good at that stuff. Here's a c/6o reflector.

And a c/3d eater.

So the majority of technology in this rule will be period-160 or period-50. The LCM of those two numbers is 800, so I don't find it likely that both oscillators will be used in the same machine. Alongside that maybe there are some evolutionary sequences we can hassle to make different periods?

For stable technology, there is this c/3d eater, using a still life which I've already mentioned to be good at catalysis.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 14, rule = R2,C2,S4,6-9,20,B7-9,18

I've constructed a gun using four copies of the period-160, basically eating a reaction on one side, and turning it into a spaceship on the other. It fires the c/3d. Chances are you can make guns with fewer "engines", and I would like to see that.

Code: Select all

Later on, using syntheses or conversion methods, yyh_baboon constructed two other guns for the c/6o and the rare c/2o.

This rule which is a variant of Brian's Brain that is unexplosive for most soups. Butterflies seem to be way more common too, and two extended variants have been found naturally.

Butterfly rake that can be turned into a ship (found naturally):

Has this cool infinitely extendable butterfly:

And a very common rake for a c/5 orthogonal ship:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 7, rule = /2-e3ae/3

The c/5 orthogonal ship seems to be very prone of turning into a butterfly, and vice versa (via photon). I do not have time currently to find some examples, but most soups should yield an example.

Edit: Smaller butterfly rake and photons can kill c/5 ships:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 13, rule = /2-e3ae/3

Edit 2: I lost the photon c/5 reaction :(

Here are some automata(that im not sure are documented, but its worth a shot):
B34/s23 “a world on fire” - explosive rule
B34/S36 “ameba” - dwindling rule
B3/S45678 “Barrel” - infinite growth, like life without death
B348/S2345 “Circular ctites” - infinite growth, like mazetric
B2/S2345 “dormant wire casing” - same as before
B23/s234 “standard wire casing” - infinite growth but with lots of oscillators
B23/S2345 “flammable wire casing” - standard wire casing?
B2/s012345678 “ fast growth”- very fast growth
B348/S35 “high structures” - weird growth rate
B2/S2 “howl” - gnarl mixed with seeds
B24/S02345678 “Jack Black’s crappy diamond” - a diamond with flaws
B24/S012345678 “Jack Black’s better Diamond” - a diamond with less flaws
B24/S0345678 “Jack Black’s horrible diamond” - a diamond with many flaws
B234567/S01234567 “ life pods” - this produces cool patterns that look like life pods(and high ostriches )
B34/S2 “NighLife” / “Slow fizzle out” - this one is long lived, but shrinking
B1/S2 “gnarly” - mixes of gnarl, and howl
B45/S012345678 “ weak floodfill” - floods many shapes, but not fully
B34/S35 “structures “ - produces long lived, diminishing patters

Hello and welcome to the forums!
I like your enthusiasm, and the fact that you aren't making a bunch of new threads like many newcomers have, but we don't need to name each rule. Only some of the more interesting ones get named, and some very interesting rules still do not get named.
However, B34/S35 actually has a name, Dance, although rarely used.
Anyway, you can explore these rules, but I would recommend posting here and not making new threads for them.
Furthermore, it might be a good idea to look at isotropic rules, see the Isotropic non-totalistic rule page for help making that.
I hope you enjoy your time on the forums! :D

Some isotropic nontotalistic rules(dont mind if they have been named already)
B2n4/S2345 “Circuit board” - looks like a circuit bored
B2-a/S012345678 - “knotted” - looks like a knot
B34c/S23 -“absurdly long lived” - produces absurdly long lived patterns
B34cinqty/S23 - “methuselah’s inverse” there arent a lot of conway methuselahs that are in this automaton as methuselahs

B34c/S23 already has a name, "4diagonal". If you want to know whether a certain CA rule has already been named, search its rulestring in LifeWiki or Catagolue. If you want a table listing most named INT rules, User:Confocal/R seems to be the most complete one. 4diagonal is the eighth entry there.
My website (a database of Life objects, WIP).
GlidINT has been released!

1. a butterfly rake

3. photon rake
4. c/5 to butterfly via photon
5. length 2 and 3 extended butterflies

Edit 1: One of the c/5 to length 3 extended butterfly found naturally, also producing a regular butterfly, with a sparkler (?)

This rule is omniperiodic via lightspeed wires that can flip in two ways, one of which flips the wire 1 generation faster, so even periods can be done with 2 of the same ends, and odd periods with different ends, like so:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 21, rule = B2ce3aey4ajqt5-ciny6-ak/S1e23-ary4aet5i6c
12bo$12bo$o11bo$o4bo$6bo$2b11o$6bo$o4bo$o11bo$12bo$12bo4$o11bo$o4bo6b
o$6bo$2b9o$6bo$o4bo6bo$o11bo!
This can make all periods 4+2n and 5+2n. With the common patterns in the collection below, this proves the rule omniperiodic.
Apart from that, we have a common p24, a natural c/3o (which appears to be the speed limit), c/4o spaceship, wickstretcher and wickeater, the same for c/5o and c/6o, a surprisingly small c/7o, and a c/4d, 2c/8d, and c/6d.

Code: Select all

Can someone apgsearch it?
EDIT: thanks to PK22 for apgsearching! Collection of interesting oscillators, which the rule is quite rich in, including p86 and p96 oscillators with huge sparks:

This rule looks like to boil the soup down until it's gone.

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = B02/S23
!
[[ RANDOMIZE RANDWIDTH 128 RANDHEIGHT 128 ]]
Replicating or dying, that is a question.
