Also that variant has better clearance, it is used when you are tight on space, but it has a lager population, so it isn't used as much as the original variant.

Yes, please read!

There are only three scary things about this latest request for LifeWiki access, but some of them are a little bit hard to fix.

1) It would be really nice not to have to deal with a username that's basically advertising -- an unrelated URL. Personally I'm probably not ever going to encourage the use of a username like that by giving it a trusted flag.
2) A user account has to be created separately on LifeWiki before it can be granted trusted status. It doesn't look like that has been done.
____2a) See #1 above before creating the separate account. The recommendation is to use the same name on the LifeWiki and the forums if possible, to keep confusion to a minimum, but that will mean changing the forum username first. To do that, PM me with your preferred new username.
3) Size-1 text in posts is unreadable by most but not all browsers, and generally causes pointless problems and zero benefits. It's not a very auspicious introduction to moderators who are being asked to extend trust. We had some problems with size-1 text the last time it had a brief spike of unwarranted popularity.

"3c10piwave" has had the trusted flag for a couple of weeks. A "like" from a moderator on a request post is supposed to convey that the request has been handled.

(So, again, everyone else should please avoid putting "like"s on these request posts -- likes are the way that other moderators can quickly tell at a glance that a request has been handled and they don't need to waste time double-checking).
Hey are you sure about that because I was going to put my own F-heptomino-to-G conduit in the sandbox but they said I wasn't allowed because it is only limited to editors

Pretty sure, yes:

I should probably know what this "sandbox" is, but can you please give the specific URL for the page you're trying to edit? "Editor" is a special category that got set up some time ago but isn't much used (we still have only two Editors, b3s23love and hotdogPi).

EDIT: After some more investigating, I now suspect that you clicked on the "edit this page" link in the LifeWiki:Sandbox. It just so happens that that link was in an old outdated URL format. It had the weird effect of redirecting you so that you were actually trying to edit the main page instead of LifeWiki:Sandbox. The main page is indeed locked down and can't be edited by most users.

I've fixed the link, so if you try it again it should work better now. The more standard method is to click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page, though.

A person should only have a page about them created in the wiki if they satisfy at least one of the following criteria.
  • They discovered an extremely notable pattern.
  • There are at least three red links within the wiki pointing to their name, excluding links created by that person (if applicable).
  • Their contributions to cellular automata are described by an independent, third-party source such as the Game of Life News.

And even then, it's safer if someone else does the page creation, to dodge the rule about not documenting one's own stuff. Maybe the idea was just creating a User:1and0nlycordershippr page, though (?) That would be fine. Lots of people create user pages to keep their research in.

@1and0nlycordershippr, your post is now the latest in a surprisingly long series of recent LifeWiki access requests in this thread, that for one reason or another are likely to make moderators nervous enough to not grant the request immediately.

Please take the time to read through recent posts here, and after a few days feel free to make a new request in a way that doesn't raise any of our "worry flags" -- preferably by being more specific about the types of edits you want to make on the LifeWiki.

I would like a trusted flag. My current motivation is to correct minor factual inaccuracies, like the apgcode wiki article stating that the fourth term in linear growth apgcodes is unknown (despite the fact that it is explained in the same exact article under the next level 2 header), and to correct typographical errors, such as the wiki page for the Live Free or Die Free Ship being titled “OCA:Life Free or Die/Free ship”. My account name is the exact same on the wiki.

Welcome to the forums!

In general, you should post such CA rules on Thread For Your Unrecognised CA, rather than make wiki articles for your cellular automata unless they’re in your userspace. The LifeWiki notability guidelines state that

[…]

To prevent overenthusiastic edits and conflicts of interest, a commonly accepted rule is that the discoverer of a pattern, inventor of new terminology, writer of a program, etc., etc., should not be the one to document that pattern, term, or program on the LifeWiki.

[…]
It’s also helpful to mention that you don’t need to ask the moderation team for an account; you just register one yourself. What you do need to request is the trusted flag in this thread to be able to edit pages on the LifeWiki.

I am not a spam bot. I like Conway’s Game of Life. I also made a slide gun using Beehive. Please make me a trustworthy account.

You think Conway’s Game of Life is difficult? You just need to know how to perform simple arithmetic operations!

Done. Or rather, you made the account yourself, and I turned it into a trusted account.
Wngks Life wrote: August 12th, 2026, 8:35 am I also made a slide gun using Beehive.
Like many introductory notes in this thread recently, the above sentence makes me just slightly nervous. You know that you shouldn't jump right in and create an article called "slide gun using Beehive" -- right? Post the pattern here on the forums first.

Even after that, don't use the LifeWiki to document your own discoveries, except possibly on your user page. If a pattern you made is noteworthy enough for a mainspace article, someone else will write the article.

As usual on this thread, the "like" from a moderator on Hunter's post means that the trusted flag has already been set.

May I have the trusted flag? My account username is the same as my forum name: ElijahKen. I don't have specific edits planned, but I would like to be able to correct errata and suggest news items when I feel the need. I enjoy the Game of Life, and understand why I should not document my own discoveries.
