Minimum predecessors

Post by praosylen »

This thread is for determining the smallest predecessors (in population or bounding box) for various objects. Here are the smallest-population predecessors for the 33 most common objects (as determined by Catagolue) that I could find:

Code: Select all

x = 273, y = 10, rule = B3/S23

I'm sure some (e.g. ship-tie, integral, shillelagh) could be improved. I haven't tried with bounding box yet.

Edit: Because I was stupid, I missed this one for the shillelagh:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23

Some random rare objects:

Oh, and table-on-table.

There are also 2 predecessors to Achim's P8; One has 20 cells, and the other has 22 cells but takes longer to become the oscillator.
