Playing around with LLS got me this P6 pipsquirter partial that's logical width 5 and 3 active cells in each row only (except the first few):

I think that a good period to try and make in this rule now would be 27, due to being a multiple of 3. It is just slightly too low a period to use a reflector loop, but I think we might be able to make a faster p3 reflector or hassle an active region at period 27.
To try and help with the first method, I am going to find some T/G reactions with common objects that produce a T/G in 20 generations or less.
Edit: reactions so far:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 5, rule = B3/S23-a5
6b2o$5bobo$bo4bo$2o$bo!
This excludes ones that would be definitively impossible to turn into a periodic reflector.
I had to include this because it is just so funny:
'Let me just pack it down'

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 6, rule = B3/S23-a5
