Proposed CA FAQ discussion thread

Re: Proposed CA FAQ discussion thread
I don't see the point of creating an FAQ thread without anything in it, so I have changed the scope of the thread title to focus on discussion of this proposal. If anyone wants to write some questions they think would belong in an FAQ (ideally along with answers), they can do so here.
I believe such an FAQ should mostly be about finding resources related to cellular automata, not about automata themselves. However, I'm not sure an FAQ is really the best way to present such information, as the question-answer format might be too restrictive. Something like a "beginner's guide" might be better. The wiki is also a much better place for collaboratively building guides, as multiple people can edit a single page.

Re: Proposed CA FAQ discussion thread
The reason I request it to be a sticky thread is to make sure that any potential new users would see it first before posting, instead of going to the wiki (a highly unlikely event).
I don't know if there's any way to make a bot that "crossposts" the wiki page, but it's certainly a good compromise, at least according to what I think.

There can still be a sticky thread, or even an announcement post that links to a few relevant wiki pages. This makes it easy for new users to find it while still allowing the broader community to maintain it. The wiki also allows better formatting than a forum post.b-engine wrote: March 29th, 2026, 8:12 am The reason I request it to be a sticky thread is to make sure that any potential new users would see it first before posting, instead of going to the wiki (a highly unlikely event).
