does this count as unusual? it has a really high period for a spaceship in a generations rule (255c/19874o)

Code: Select all

confocaloid wrote: March 4th, 2024, 2:54 pm These two high-period spaceships look different, but their mechanisms are similar.
In both cases, there is a temporary pair of reactions that oscillate with high periods close to each other (so that the phase of the entire spaceship is reduced to a combination of phases of the two oscillating reactions).
Are there other known examples of this?
Yes here is one 76c/39052o

Code: Select all

x = 44, y = 13, rule = B3aeijr4ej5r6ci7c8/S2-i3-ay4einrtyz5jnr6cn7
b2o$obo$3o7$40b3o$39bo2bo$39b2o2bo$42b2o!
Also for the 14c/85265o Here is what I understand about it
The bottom reaction repeats every 550, and every time the bottom is repeated the top goes forward 4 gens, This happens 133 times before breaking. Over time the top recedes from the center, and then it doubles back, going towards it, the pattern finally breaks when the top has reached the center, This also explains why the graph fluctuates the least in the center

I still need to understand the difference between the sides because sometimes sides seem to be the same reaction just at different generations
Here is another one (18c/4453)

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 36, rule = B2-an3-iqy4iknrtz5aijq6aek78/S02ck3nqy4eiqrtwy5-q6-i78
2bo4bo$3b4o$ob6obo$2b6o!
EDIT:
A spaceship with a different (although very similar) mechanism, and in my opinion is equally cool (20c/6169)

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 36, rule = B2-an3-iqy4iknrtz5aijqk6aek78/S02ck3nqy4eirtwy5-eq6-in78

A natural C/2 spaceship that abruptly forms a rake and would do it infinitely (becoming an MMM breeder) but the rakes keep crashing into the first

This pattern is a binary counter. 1 is represented by the presence of a spaceship, and 0 is represented by the absence of a spaceship.

So this rake is a binary counter, cool, i don't care. Still amazing this is natural. :mrgreen:

A bizarre orthogonal spaceship that creates copies of itself which are almost immediately destroyed, turning into still lives, which are destroyed later on (c/340)

Code: Select all

It can also be turned into a diagonal SMOS which is faster than the component ship, yet it still meets the full period requirement (c/307)

      In a Chasm variant (without S4e; here shown with additional +S4c), a very strange doubly self-intercepting puffer-rake spaceship (156c/312o), first discovered by Neocaridina almost at the same time as I spotted it in my apgsearches. I am not quite sure if this belongs here, but I will put it here anyway. Spaceship based on a replicator that eventually creates debris because when the replicator hits another replicator it creates ash that can interreact with other ash when multiple replicators collide and when enough collide it then makes debris, which when the remaining replicators hit the debris, it is destroyed and rebuilt the same distance away that it originally was from the replicators.
      Writing that was probably a waste of time

      Code: Select all

      x = 63, y = 12, rule = B3-cn5jy6-i7c/S23-jk4cr5acjk6kn7c

      Everything in this rule is a knight. To be fair, it IS a rule with an asymmetrical neighborhood.

      Code: Select all

      A pretty simple method:
      1) find a good rulespace;
      2) hand-search the space to find strange spaceships.
