this takes 569 steps to stabilize. this is prime. should this be notable?

This pattern takes 593 steps to stabilize. 593 is also prime. Is this notable? No, because:
1. Prime numbers are not particularly rare
2. Is there anything recordbreaking about this pattern? Does it have some unique property? It doesn't seem like it to me, so why does it matter that it takes a prime number of steps to stabilize?
3. You can make patterns take arbitrarily long to stabilize by just putting a glider some distance from a block.

None known yet, but I am hopeful.
I doubt there will be any forerakes. they'd have to be made out of slowships, and they might be a bit problematic.
for one, they'd all instantly die if anything was shooting forward, except the meatloaf, which is fragile from behind.
if that was patched somehow, diamonds may have to be used, too. they die on impact with any other slowship.
if THAT was patched, then what about gavvettes? at c/3, they're slower than the others, and we haven't found any way to save them from impact, anyway. they are practically invinible from the sides, but this is a forerake. they're likely to be the key to guns, but rakes? no chance.

None known yet, but I am hopeful.
I doubt there will be any forerakes. they'd have to be made out of slowships, and they might be a bit problematic.
for one, they'd all instantly die if anything was shooting forward, except the meatloaf, which is fragile from behind.
if that was patched somehow, diamonds may have to be used, too. they die on impact with any other slowship.
if THAT was patched, then what about gavvettes? at c/3, they're slower than the others, and we haven't found any way to save them from impact, anyway. they are practically invinible from the sides, but this is a forerake. they're likely to be the key to guns, but rakes? no chance.
You can have a spaceship that leaves behind slower spaceships going forward, like this example in B3/S23-a5:

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 13, rule = B3/S23-a5

obobobob2o3b2obo5bob2o$bobo5bobo7bo5bo$3b2o3b2o8bo7bo$bobo5bobo!
also, instead of calling the slower spaceships something, we normally just call the lightspeed spaceships photons.
Edit: Boom. p16 diamond forerake.

Code: Select all

x = 85, y = 100, rule = 0/2/4

TARships

a TARship is a ship with tensity* higher than its maximum live cell count, that is reactive**.

the glider is an example.

none have been found in TFoD.

* Tensity is: 'S' in the speed calculation (c/S, even if S is a decimal value) times minimum heat, then all that divided by 2.
** Reactive means: this ship cannot be modified. no tagaolongs, no extra cells. if a tagalong or addition has been found, it is not reactive.

This is an incredibly hard condition to meet. A categorization should not depend on the current state of knowledge. For this categorization to be valid, one would have to prove no tagalongs exist for a ship, which is incredibly difficult. Also, I believe glider tagalongs are known.

Crab and Orion 2 are glider tagalongs.

oh. well maybe all tagalongs should have more cells than the min. cell count of the ship alone?

so, some photons, a diamond, diamonds with tagalongs, a meatloaf, and a gavvette.

I have found this cool unnatural setup for “kimberlites, an oca based on TFoD.
