At this point, it looks like making a pseudo-heisenburp which just converts the spaceship into an LWSS and converts it back into the spaceship with the exact timing and position would be more useful. The beacon should be restored before the block.

Its one redeeming quality is that it can insert gliders on a transparent lane. (The catalyst can be reduced by two cells, but that blocks the transparent lane.)
Engineering macro-spaceships is hard.

There are known c/2 puffers with periods which are an odd multiple of 14. These are all based on period 42 rakes, and so always have a period divisible by 6.

Today I found that the output of an old period 14 puffer can be ignited to form a high-period puffer whose period is not a multiple of 6.

The debris could be cleaned up by using period 2 spaceships that do glider turning and duplication reactions, but the result would be huge.

I also found period 1204 and period 1386 puffers using the same mechanism, but one of them is divisible by 6 and the other divisible by 4 so they aren't worth showing here.

I haven't yet figured out how to make the adjustments to change the period to make an infinite number of interesting periods.

Interesting reaction between an R-pentomino and a block + blinker constellation:

The R gets converted into a Herschel, 'flipping' the block + blinker constellation and preserving the parity of the blinker (consuming the Herschel's FNG in the process) and releasing an additional glider.
Now, if we had a way to turn that Herschel back into a 'flipped' R which reacts with the block + blinker constellation in the exact same way, we may have a gun that utilizes this reaction. That doesn't look very possible though, with the low Herschel clearance.
