Can I have the trusted flag? I am https://conwaylife.com/wiki/User:Speedydelete.
I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in certain rulespaces.

I humbly request to be granted the trusted flag so that I may edit wiki pages if need be :D

I personally believe that it’s preferable to build patterns yourself instead of using pattern finders

Side note -- the convention in this thread is for the moderator who sets the trusted flag on a request, also puts a "like" on the post. This is an easy signal to other moderators that the work has been done, so nobody else has to go and check (and there's no need for a separate post that might trigger more email notifications).

It could cause some confusion If other people get in the habit of liking these posts. Moderators might think that the trusted flag has been granted when it actually hasn't.

More generally -- using the "like" button as if it's a personal checklist, like "okay, I've read this post" ... isn't really how most people use or understand the "like" button. It's more like "this post is extra good/interesting/cool/worth reading ".

I advise against discussing on LifeWiki. I suggest creating a personal thread in the sandbox and discuss there.

most people say that since i've made so many of them, i should just make pages about them in a user page. apart from that, i have no otheruse for the flag.

The forums is meant for potentially less serious stuffs but still worthy of posting. LifeWiki is for information of notable patterns.

But this will stay on my user page.

(Also, how is this not notable? :?: we just discovered a c/3 ship, the largest and slowest of all slowships. [all non-photons])

If you just want to post patterns, then you can make a new thread in the sandbox with a name like "WRAPboi's patterns" or "WRAPboi's stuff" or something similar where you can post these things. This is generally a much better way to share your patterns than putting them in your userspace on the wiki.

"Notability" in the context of LifeWiki means that a pattern or topic meets LifeWiki's notability guidelines. Patterns in CA other than Conway's Game of Life never meet these guidelines (with possibly a small number of historical exceptions), so they don't belong in the main namespace. However, you can include things in your userspace that do not meet the general notability guidelines, but you should generally restrict it to things for which the wiki is better than the forums (such as tables).

I seem to have forgotten my password and I'm not receiving any reset emails.
My account name is identical to the one here.
Edit: Or wait, was it capitalized...?
Edit 2: I appear to have two accounts on LifeWiki: Anonymous7002 and Lordlouckster.
Approximate timeline of events for clarity:
  • May 2021: I created the Anonymous7002 account.
  • 14 July 2022: I created the Lordlouckster account (which I intended to use going forward).
  • 15 July 2022: I requested the trusted flag for Lordlouckster and received it.
  • December 2023: For some reset the password for Anonymous7002 and saved it in my browser, which is why I can still log into that one now, but account never received the trusted flag.
If possible, could someone merge these two accounts under the Lordlouckster name?

EDIT by dvgrn: Working on it. Sent a PM.

The wiki isn't the appropriate place to share new discoveries. Instead, you should consider posting these OCA in the Thread For Your Unrecognised CA. If you have a lot of OCA to share, you could even make your own thread in the OCA forum with a name like "OCAfan55's CA" or something similar.

Finally, while there isn't an explicit rule, it would be helpful if your wiki username could be similar to your forum username, as discussed here.

Having put it off for years, I am just now making my wiki account (also "amling"). May I please have the trusted flag for editing pages?

My current intentions are to maintain/update a few status pages (especially regarding minimum heights and populations) and to possibly contribute to Sokwe's LLSSS tutorial, but mostly in a refining/updating capacity rather than a creation capacity. I have little experience with wikis and am not really planning to bring much in the way of volume.

Your account already has the trusted flag, so if you're having trouble editing a page, it's for another reason. Please note that the wiki is currently experiencing technical difficulties that make it difficult to load pages (which includes submitting edits), so you may have to try multiple times. Hopefully this will be fixed soon, although it depends largely on when Nathaniel has time to deal with it.

Make sure the link you clicked is "Edit Page" instead of "View Source".
