Your Best OCA Discoveries

Post by LuveelVoom »

This is a thread for collecting the best of the best of patterns from the OCA forums.
Rules:

-You can only post one pattern per person (or headmate, if there are multiple who do CA).

-The pattern can be of any size, but must be in one rule. The pattern should ideally showcase just one thing, but I guess rule pattern collections are fine.

-You can add text to posts to explain it and give attributions or related links. Try to keep the text in the main body to a paragraph or so, but you can put more inside a code tag (which has a limit to the amount of space it takes up, so that solves the text wall problem, so there shouldn’t be any issue with text length when using it)

-You must have contributed in large part to any pattern you post; you can't post a pattern showcasing your random INT rule but made up almost entirely of other people's finds in it, or a pattern showing a macroship someone else made that uses a reaction you found. Use common sense.

-No using hybrid rules to get around the one rule restriction. Ruletables not intended to be hybrid are fine.

-You can change your entry in the thread at any time. Please edit your post to do so, don't post another message.

-Please avoid discussing things posted in the thread in this thread. It's intended to be a gallery. If you want to post a comment of some sort on something someone has posted here, do it in a dm or by a cross-thread reply.

Here is my nomination: A blinker-based Fibonacci counter found while manually rulegolfing.

Code: Select all

x = 37, y = 13, rule = B2en3einy/S2-a34ackqy5ckny6ekn7e8

Here's mine: a 3c/8 in B3/S23-a5 found with qfind:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 9, rule = B3/S23-a5

I have LLS and qfind.
I manage the Travelling Ts pattern collection. It can be found on the first post in the thread.
B3/S23-a5 IS OMNIPERIODIC!!!!!

Probably this 4-cell 7c/78d elementary rake:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2-a3i4c5i/S12-k8

Hard pick, but here's my favorite RMOSMOOOSOMOS (replicator-made-of-spaceships-making-orbits-of-O-shaped-oscillators-made-of-spaceships) which I totally just made up on the spot:

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 20, rule = B2e3aijky4ajrt5a6c7c/S1c2-in3nr4actw5aejqr6cen7c8History
b2o$3bo$o2bo$o2bo$3o12$16b3o$15bo3bo$15bo3bo$15b3o!
It's a 2D dirty replicator powered by a collision reaction between a pair of (3,4)/11 ships, where said collision also create oscillators made of four colliding c/2 ships in a square O shape; the oscillators are in fact adjustable and eventually you get many said oscillators of various sizes orbiting each other.

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 13, rule = B3aeij4cekrtz5cqry6-ai7/S2cn3-aqr4eiy5eijkq6-a7c8
2bo$b3o$5o$b5o$2b5o$3b5o$2b5o$b5o$5o$4o$3o$2o$o!

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 12, rule = B2e3aijky4ajrt5ai6c7c8/S1c2-in3nr4actw5aejqr6cen7c8

I’ve definitely made cool guns, but I still think one of the best ones I’ve made is this rake that sends out a weird replicator thing. Turns out, somebody also rediscovered the replicator thing in the T-split rulespace, but still, I found it first.

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 28, rule = B2cei3ai4cj7/S12-ak78
34b2o$33bobobo$38bo$33bobobo$34bobo$38b2o$32bo2b2o2bo$31bobo2bob2o$37b
o$33b2o$32bobo2b2o$36bobobo$b2o20bo17bo$obo20bobo10bobobo$b2o34b2o$14b
o$14bobo2$8b2o5bobo$15bo3b2o$15b3o2bo$16b2ob2o$13bo2bo$14bo3bo$19bo$
18bo$13bo$14bo!
Look at the tracks in LifeHistory! They are so cool!

Also, can we switch pur pattern if we find a better one?

Code: Select all

x=0,y=0,rule=B34q/S23-k
14b3o$13bo3bo$13b2ob2o9$15bo$15bo$b2o12bo12b2o$obo25bobo$o10b3o3b3o10b
