Devore's CA and Computation

Post by Freywa »

I tried tinkering with JvN CAs for a practical computer (not any UCC, more like Owen's Wireworld computer) but NOT gates wasted space so I turned to Devore's CA. While fiddling with the triode/funnel I noticed a missing transition preventing a XOR gate and added it; I also made four-way junctions AND gates. Below are the gates in the resulting rule – which I call Tuva (TUring + deVOre) – and the added state changes.

Code: Select all

I'm pretty sure you can just copy his extra transitions into Devore.rule and save it as Tuva.rule.

Right, it's been months now. Here's a pattern I was intending to get on here but never got around to until now: a JK flip-flop (that works in the original Devore rule too). Note that the J and K leads are determined by the parity of the state-3 bits, so here the left lead is K and the top one J.

Code: Select all

x = 62, y = 27, rule = Tuva

A full adder. Again, based off the Wireworld model.

Smaller full adder, based on Tony Ennis's design from Scherer's Wireworld site. Again, I had to define new transitions for the "device" in the upper-right-hand corner, but this means I can remove the transitions I defined for the first full adder.

Re: Devore's CA and Computation

Post by Freywa »

Well if you post the full rule let me tell you of some optimisations I made on my copy. The a variable is defined but unused, so I commented it out; all the useless comments were also stripped as well.

In particular, when crafting all these rule transitions I had to ensure that Devore's replicator functioned perfectly, so as to keep construction universality.
