B2-ak5j/S12-k and related rules

Post by speedydelete »

This rule has been discussed a lot on the Discord server but not on the forums until now. Interesting common objects are 2 c/4 ships, a c/5 ship, a c/6 ship, and a p10 oscillator.

There is some interesting circuitry, such as:

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 40, rule = B2-ak5j/S12-k

However, LuveelVoom has found a smaller gun:

Code: Select all

x = 19, y = 25, rule = B2-ak5j/S12-k

There are various rakes and puffers at https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/b2- ... kpx2_stdin.

I manage the 5S project, which collects all known spaceship speeds in certain rulespaces.

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

The longest c/3 partial I've seen from ikpx2 at logical width<=26:

Any chance of searching for c/3 in B2-ak5j/S12-k? I've exhausted logical width 26 in ikpx2. It should be a fairly "straightforward" search, except that any solutions seem to be stupidly wide, similar to the situation with c/3 in B3/S12. This is the longest partial I was able to get from ikpx2:

The f2b partials looked baaaad to my eyes and seemed like they were expanding width linearly with depth achieved. An unlimited width s2s search completes almost immediately with no results:

That is so strange. Diagonal motion seems to be so natural in this rule and yet this rule hates anything orthogonal like the metaphorical plague. In fact, I would like to point out that c/4, c/5, and c/6 are all slower than their diagonal counterparts; I have never seen a case where a slower speed is impossible but where a faster speed is possible, except for some edge cases like c/3 versus c/3d in seeds. Anyways, here are partials for c/7d and c/8d:

I'm curious if there is a reason you can't run these yourself instead of waiting/hoping for me to get around to it.

c/2 finishes instantly with no results (both f2b and s2s work, but b2f hits an almost half plane). 2c/4, 3c/6, and 4c/8 also all finish pretty quickly f2b. 2c/5 f2b finishes in about a minute.

Neither f2b nor s2s c/4 finished within 60 GB of memory. A little poking around in limited searches finds partials at least as long as (odd):

It certainly doesn't look healthy, but it's big enough and not quite sick enough to make me optimistic about getting a c/4 negative proof through.

It's nice how the eater lines up just right to eat the glider from the 2g-to-2g reaction.
Since you can use this reaction with reflector outputs, it probably has a lot of other uses.
The reaction also retimes the outputs, which makes it even more useful.

Any chance you could do a similar search for an elementary signal to glider?

I'll give it a try, but replacing the domino seems more difficult than recovering a pre-block catalyst.
Edit: All the searches smaller or faster than the one which found the splitter were unsatisfiable, though I'll keep a few more running for a bit in case I get lucky.

This can be used to make a irregular gun that produces gliders with a spacing of 18, 20, 18, 20, etc, which is a density record for a gun. It cannot be used to make a p18 gun, sadly.

Are any orthogonal spaceships known in this rule? Or at least promising partials?
mmmmmmmmm, I love eating spaceships.

Nope! There is some c/3o stuff, but it's not promising. I am however working on an Orthogonoid.
