I found a VERY interesting rule, b3-cknqs2-n34eiq. It has a p15+ wire loop:

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 18, rule = B3-cknq/S2-n34eiq
9bo5bo$b2o5bobo3bobo$obo5b2o5b2o$bo$8b3o$10bo$8b3o$bo2b3o$obobobob2ob

bo3bobo5b2o$2bo5bo!
It has a 6c/12, a 4c/58, and a 23c/50 puffer.

Code: Select all

x = 56, y = 8, rule = B3-cknq/S2-n34eiq
b3o6bo3bo17b2o12b3o4b3o$b3o5b3ob3o17b2o11bo2bo2bo2bo$o7b2obobob2o14bo
bo12bob2o2b2obo$bo29b2o2$6b2o9b2o$6b2o9b2o$7bo9bo!
Can someone corderize the puffer?
Here are some reactions that might be helpful:

Can someone please apgsearch it?

20c/59 puffer, consisting of two (c/2?) failed puffers which destroy themselves and then miraculously recover:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 3, rule = B2c3-q4w/S2-c3
bobo14bobo$5o12b5o$obobo12bobobo!
Apart from that, this rule is not of much interest(it mostly has p12 oscillators and margolus emulators).
Currently writing a utility in Lua that may be helpful for faster manual pattern manipulation.

I've recently been fascinated with 3 state rules after seeing the custom rule table section in catagolue. So I tried custom rule tables and got this rule:
B367/S23 but cells born through B6 or B7 have S3678 instead. I plan on exploring similar rules later.

Bloom is a new hybrid of HighLife and DryLife, but births on 8 cells can cause a virus to appear and infect certain neighbouring cells, converting them to the opposite state. The exact mechanics are a little bit harder to explain than I would have liked, but the transition definitions are only 19 lines long:

Code: Select all

@RULE Bloom

rabbit, 2025-09-07
State 1 operates similarly to HighLife (B36/S23)
State 2 operates similarly to DryLife (B37/S23)

However, if a state 0 cell is surrounded by eight state 1/2 cells, one of three things happens:
If five or more of the cells are state 1, the central cell turns to state 3
If five or more of the cells are state 2, the central cell turns to state 4
If states 1 and 2 present four cells each, the central cell stays in state 0.

States 3 and 4 are virus cells. Their functions are similar to eachother.
State 3 "infects" nearby state 1 cells, and turns into a state 2 cell if it is surrounded by two or three state 1-4 cells.
State 4 "infects" nearby state 2 cells, and turns into a state 1 cell if it is surrounded by two or three state 1-4 cells.

The resulting rule supports most key objects from HighLife in state 1 and DryLife in state 2, but also some other interesting patterns.

The name comes from the spreading motion of the viruses resembling the blooming of flowers. Despite one state being DryLife, Bloom is non-explosive, unless you consider the HighLife replicator to cause explosions.

It supports a lot of patterns from either rule, sometimes with slight modifications. Here is a small collection of some of them:

Code: Select all

x = 56, y = 50, rule = Bloom
41.A2.A$45.A$B.B38.A3.A$2.2B9.3B17.2B7.4A$4.B10.B8.B9.B.2B$.3B11.B22.

The large c/18 diagonal HighLife spaceship from this post works as well.

Because of the virus mechanics, a pair of B-heptominoes in the DryLife state that would otherwise become a puffer, becomes this period-40 spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 13, rule = Bloom
34.B3.B$.A31.B.B4.B$A31.B8.B$2A20.B10.3B5.B$.A2.A16.B.B12.B3.2B$2.2A

8.B$.A31.B.B4.B$34.B3.B!
Some more satisfying puffers result from having access to both DryLife's B-heptominoes and perturbation via xWSSes:

Code: Select all

x = 48, y = 189, rule = Bloom
4.4A36.4A$3.A3.A35.A3.A$7.A39.A$3.A2.A36.A2.A2$.2B38.2B$5B35.5B$B4.B

3$4.5A$3.A4.A$8.A$3.A3.A$5.A!
There is one more special surprise about this rule. Sometimes, especially if you generate a large soup in Golly, you will notice these rare patterns containing active viruses:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 12, rule = Bloom
DBCA$.A2.DB$3.B2.C$3.C2.A$2.A.A.D$.2D.A.B$5.C.C$6.A$7.DBC$7.B2.AD$9.D
2.B$10.BC!
I have called them "tendrils" because of their typical appearance, and usually appear with high density of viruses surrounding them. However, patterns made of only states 1/2 do exist that can construct them. Here is a contrived predecessor:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 16, rule = Bloom
12.B$12.B$12.B$12.B$12.B$3.B8.B$.B10.B$.2B3A6.B$2B.A.2A5.B$.3B2A6.B$
5.A6.B$3.A8.B$12.B$12.B$12.B$12.B!
In addition, it seems possible for this type of pattern to be immortal as well. I cannot find a way to kill this pond tendril:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 4, rule = Bloom
.CA$B2.D$D2.B$.AC!
As for their potential utility, I accidentally found this tendril catalyst which converts an h-glider to a d-glider and reflects it:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 13, rule = Bloom
.D$A.B$.C$2.A$2.D$2.2B$3.C4$3.3A$3.A$4.A!
EDIT: This rule is omniperiodic due to the presence of still life signal loops. Here is a p19 as a demonstration:

Code: Select all

x = 58, y = 58, rule = Bloom
52.2A$51.A2.A$51.D2.A$49.CB4.2A$48.A8.A$48.A8.A$46.2A7.2A$45.A8.A$45.

7.2A$3.A8.A$3.A8.A$.2A7.2A$A8.A$A8.A$.2A4.BC$3.A2.D$3.A2.A$4.2A!
Signals can follow eachother with a minimum repeat time of 4, so all periods 4+ appear to be achievable, which can be combined with existing p2s and p3s inherited into the rule.

My goodness, a p304 unloopable RRO:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 6, rule = Bloom

The p32 spinner (and banana spark reflectors in general) can apply to both d-gliders and h-gliders:

EDIT2: Here are two recent state 1-only patterns that produce a tendril:

That's the bunny.

Cool rule B2-a6k8/S23ae45i68. It has many oscillators, I have found oscillators of p1-10, p12-15, p31, and p62 from random soups:

Blocks are almost indestructible, being only able to destroy them with the B6k condition. You can do it quickly like this:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 5, rule = B2-a6k8/S23ae45i68
3bo2$2o2bo$2obo$3bo!
Or after a bit like this:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B2-a6k8/S23ae45i68
3bo2$2o2bo$2obo!
Can someone apgsearch it?
Edit: can someone corderize this c/12?

Here's a c/12d linear growth pattern:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 23, rule = 0/2/4
13.2A$13.2BA$13.2CBA$15.CBA$16.CB$17.C6$9.A2$12.2A$ABC8.A2BA4.CBA$ABC

A$11.A2CBA$12.2BA$12.2A!
Probably easier to stabilise then the quadratic.

Code: Select all

#R BloomB67
!
@RULE BloomB67

Unname4798, 2025-09-12
Original description by rabbit, 2025-09-07:

Unname4798's addon, 2025-09-12:
Live cells now birth a virus cell if there are 6 or 7 live cells.

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = B012-i3-j4-i/S01c2-i34c5jn6
!
[[ RANDOMIZE ]]
The most common patterns are the "photon" and an oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 9, rule = B012-i3-j4-i/S01c2-i34c5jn6
o$2bo$obo5$o$o!
The oscillator is so common that it gained the ability to rebirth:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 7, rule = B012-i3-j4-i/S01c2-i34c5jn6
3b2o5$o$o!
EDIT:
This is the only known spaceship in this related rule:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 4, rule = B0123-j4-ijw/S01c2-i34c5jn6-k

Hi! This is a rule I call "Sparky", and it's because this common P17 oscillator, which I called "Sparky":

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
3o$obo$3o!
Other objects include:

SPACESHIPS: from left to right, Table2 (C/2), Table (C/2), C/2,[EDIT4] Also C/2, and C/12

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 6, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
31bo$30bobo$4o13bo5bo5bobobo$b2o5b4o4bobo3bobo3b2o3b2o$o2bo4bo2bo4bob
o$23bo6b3o!
OSCILLATORS: from left to right, Quintuplet A (P2), Quintuplet B (P2), Triplet(P2), Quadruplet A (P2), [EDIT2] Quadruplet B (P2) Duplet (P2), Sparky, Beacon with 2 blocks (see *!* below), P6, Blinker, 4Toad (P4), P4

Code: Select all

x = 90, y = 8, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
87bobo$bo4bo45b2o34bo$2bo5bo5bo4bobo4bobo4bo6b3o6b2ob2o16bo5bo9bo2bo$
o5bo6bo15bo4bo5bobo6bo11bo2bo5bo7bo7b2o$2bo5bo6bo4bobo4bo12b3o9bo7bo3b
o5bo4bo8b2o$bo5bo40b2ob2o7bo2bo13bo4bo2bo$48b2o33bo$82bobo!
*!*technically, you could remove the 2 blocks, but I always find the Beacon with 2 blocks, so there

STILL LIVES: the only still life known yet is the Block:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 2, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
2o$2o!
GROWTH PATTERNS: from left to right, Replicator^ reacting with Replicator^, 5c/13 puffer

Code: Select all

x = 33, y = 32, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
3bo$2bobo2$2bobo2$2bobo2$2bobo2$2bobo$30b3o$2bobo24b2obo$29b2o$2bobo24b
2obo$3bo25bo13$bo$obo2$obo$bo!
^well, you can call it a Double Wickstretcher

REACTIONS:
Sparky + Duplet = Sparky + Duplet:

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 3, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
o5b3o$bo4bobo$6b3o!
C/12 eats Blinker:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 12, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
3bo$3bo$3bo4$3bo$2bobo$bobobo$2o3b2o2$2b3o!
4 blocks can be used to reflect C/2:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 21, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
2ob2o$2ob2o4$2ob2o$2ob2o12$2bo$bobo$bobo!

EDIT: 3 C/2s from different directions can be used to create a C/2 that travels in the other direction:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 9, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
2o10b2o$bo10bo$2o10b2o5$6b3o$6bobo!
EDIT3: while searching Sparky variants, on the +S5e it has this Replicator^-fuse ship (and it works in the original Sparky?!):

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 3, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai4t8
2bobobobo$2o7bo$2bobobobo!
EDIT8: Sparky variant (+B6k/S3e, which I call Sparky-1), which has this new oscillator that does not work in normal Sparky:

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 3, rule = B2eik3aeij4c6k/S23aei4t8
5o$obobo$2bo!
__
EDIT9: Sparky variant where Sparky is P12 and not P17:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = B2eik3aeij4c/S23ai
3o$obo$3o!
Can someone make a rule where State 1 is B2eik3aeij4c6k/S23aei4t8 and State 2 is B2eik3aeijc4c/S23ai?
