This is an OCA equivalent of Thread for your unsure discoveries.
If you have any CA or a pattern in a CA you're unsure if known, post it here.
For unsure patterns in B3/S23, please post in Thread for your unsure discoveries.
Thread for your unsure discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
I'm uncertain if we really need a thread like this. If there's a dedicated thread for a rule, then the "unsure" discovery should go in that thread. If there's no dedicated thread for the rule, then there are probably very few known patterns, so the "unsure" discovery is most likely new and should go in the "Miscellaneous Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata" thread. An "unsure discoveries" thread makes sense in the patterns forum, because Life has been so thoroughly explored that there's often a reasonable possibility that "new" discoveries were already known. That's not really the case in other CA.

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
I (and possibly others) often encounter a situation where posting a pattern in OCA and others pointing out that it's known.
I really feel a need of this.

I don't understand why this is a problem, nor do I see how this thread would prevent the situation you describe. You could post in this thread and still have people tell you that your discovery is known. There's nothing wrong with posting a pattern in a different thread and having someone tell you it's already known.b-engine wrote: August 18th, 2025, 12:33 am I (and possibly others) often encounter a situation where posting a pattern in OCA and others pointing out that it's known.

Even if the pattern you discovered is already known, there is still the possibility that:
I'm pretty sure that this also applies to OCA.confocaloid wrote: January 3rd, 2025, 3:13 am [...]Even if your pattern turns out a rediscovery, it can be interesting to know how it was rediscovered; this can help to understand how to find more similar patterns.

Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
To build on this from an OCA perspective, the Thread For Your Unsure Discoveries collects CGOL discoveries together, which helps organize things and build on each other. If your OCA discovery has an existing thread for the rule, then posting it there would accomplish the same goal. A Thread For Your Unsure Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata doesn't group patterns from the same topic together in that way. Meanwhile, one-time OCA discoveries are precisely what MDIOCA is for, whether it's unsure or not.Sokwe wrote: August 17th, 2025, 10:36 pm An "unsure discoveries" thread makes sense in the patterns forum, because Life has been so thoroughly explored that there's often a reasonable possibility that "new" discoveries were already known. Re: Thread for your unsure discoveries in Other Cellular Automata
I moved all of the pattern posts in this topic to more appropriate threads. Future unsure discoveries should be posted in the "Miscellaneous Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata" thread or another more specific thread. Remember, there's nothing wrong with posting a pattern that's already known.
I've locked this topic for now. Feel free to discuss this matter in the thread for your miscellaneous posts and discussions.
