Thread for basic questions
Re: Thread for basic questions
That seems more accurate - I can typically manage 170k soups/second at best.
Also, please do not worry about uploading to Catagolue. As long as you are not using a heavily modified program (based on the haul you uploaded, your program seems fine, and symmetries with lots of objects get subjected to peer review and other tests, so a faulty program would likely not have its hauls added to the census. It could wrongly reject good hauls though, which is a slight problem) and you are not uploading too frequently, nothing is likely to go wrong. Test hauls are a good idea, but usually only if you are searching another rule and want to know if it is apgsearchable or not (which I did with B36n7e/S2-i3 for example. It was just barely apgsearchable), or if you are searching a custom stdin symmetry.
Your payosha256 key is yours. As long as it does not upload under an inappropriate nickname, you can freely use it to upload to any rule and symmetry. (Provided, of course, that the symmetry is sensible - no inappropriately named custom symmetries or spam symmetries.)

Re: Thread for basic questions
Thanks, PK22. I ran the 1B soup haul, but it took 2 hours to finish! Averaged about 170K soups per second. I'm more comfortable with hauls that don't last more than 10 minutes. I plan to stay within the boundaries of known rules and symmetries. I remember the commandment from LifeWiki: "Don't break Catagolue"!

Re: Thread for basic questions
Just search for your desired title - e.g 'User:ThePlayzr/<whatever you want the title to be>'. It will tell you that "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, search the related logs, or create this page.". Then you can create the page.ThePlayzr wrote: July 9th, 2025, 6:41 am How do I add a wiki page that is under my name? For example, User:PK22/OCA:Travelling Ts

Here are the distances between the 'blobs' of ash:
Section 1-2: 468
Section 2-3: 1404, or 468 * 3
Section 3-4: 4412, or 468 * 3 * 3
Section n-n+1: 468 * 3^(n-1)
Hence, the time it takes to produce each new ash blob is proportionate to 3^kt, where k is a constant and t is the number of generations.
I think this means that it grows proportionately to log(t), but I am not certain.
I tried plotting the population at certain points using Desmos, and it seems like I can approximate the shape of the curve using y = 1626 + log3(x/936)*339.

Re: Thread for basic questions
Then it would be tlog(t), since ash is created proportionate to log(t), and a puffer grows proportionate to t. Assuming, of course, that the puffer grows linearly.

CU means 'construction universal' - in other words, the rule supports universal computation.
If the construction recipe consists of spaceships, probably not - you can use two identical constructors and loop the recipe between them, similar to Gemini, and since the recipe travels through a vacuum, it can be arbitrarily large.pifricted wrote: July 10th, 2025, 9:51 am Is there a rule is CU but no demonoid or orthogonoid, becauce to build any things need an even larger object to store?
Wire-based construction might be more difficult to prove or disprove.

Yes, this can be achieved by combining the crab boatstretcher with a dot sparker, which is the basis for the p2268+4N dirty rake and the p472 engineless rake. Here is the "glider advancer" from the p472 rake that cleanly demonstrates the mechanism:Resu wrote: July 10th, 2025, 12:15 pm Are there any c/4 diagonal-stretchable fuses that when it burns to the wickstretcher, it still allows the wickstretcher to continue wickstretching?

Re: Thread for basic questions
Has a 0E0P metacell for 1D CA even been made?
Re: Thread for basic questions
I haven't looked at this for a while, but if memory serves, you can program 0E0P metacells to emulate various 1D two-state range-1 CAs (as long as they don't include B0). Create a non-isotropic rule that updates in place and doesn't care about cells in the row above or the row below, only left and right neighbors.
Use the neighborhood simplifier script to convert that MAP rule to an eight-state von-Neumann-neighborhood rule. That's the rule that will have to be programmed in to 0E0P metacells to get them to emulate that 1D CA.

Re: Thread for basic questions
The history of the Rule:LifeSuper page puts the original invention of LifeSuper sometime in January 2020.
Chris Rowett then incorporated LifeSuper into Golly 4.0 in October 2020, and into LifeViewer at around the same time (there was still some troubleshooting going on in December 2020).
LifeHistory goes way back to the early 2000s, before Golly existed. I got Mirek W. to incorporate a "HistoricalLife" multistate rule into MCell 4.20 when MCell was still in active development. The seven-state Golly rule was added shortly after Golly started supporting multistate rules -- it wasn't in Golly 2.0 in 2008, but it was there in Golly 2.1 in September 2009. I seem to recall some version of it was downloadable from the "Rule Table Repository" in the interim.

Re: Thread for basic questions
Hope this answers your question.Sokwe wrote: February 2nd, 2025, 7:26 am Here are (I think) all known ships up to 37 bits that are not OWSSs escorted by exactly two standard spaceships and that have no known glider synthesis (Edit: removed MWSS sidewinder and added new ships):EDIT by dvgrn: The above was true back in February, but as of July 2025, see this post:Code: Select all
So the 36-bit non-OWSS spaceships seem to be the next orthogonal c/2 targets.
EDIT:
Yes, xp2_350k0ezok050e is it's name. Probably doesn't need a non-systematic name, and it's simple enough that it probably has been known for a long time.
EDIT 2:
My question: is there a 2025 oscillator stamp collection yet?Entity Valkyrie 2 wrote: December 26th, 2024, 1:13 am 2024 oscillator stamp collection update:Code: Select all
Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

What's the Wechsler format?

Re: Thread for basic questions
That link doesn't go anywhere. Are you looking for Extended Wechsler format? Or are you asking what the original format was before it got extended?
