Maybe. We will need a gun (not yet), a pull reaction (I will do some investigation, since we can also use it for our universal toolkit), a method of creating an object by colliding Ts with a slower spaceship (hibiscus’s sparky c/5 might work), and a method of deleting an object once it is pulled into range (easy enough once we find a gun).

For our universal toolkit, I think that we should use boats or loaves as an elbow, and collide Ts with it to create PULL, PUSH, and FIRE reactions (either spaceship is fine, but we will need two reactions if we use gliders). Finding an edgy, synthesisable T reflector remains an open problem, but it will enable our constructor to use Ts on any lane in order to execute the aforementioned operations.

The c/7o wasn't as giant as I expected it to be.

I have created a wiki page: User:PK22/OCA:Travelling Ts. So far, there is only basic information about the rule and the common spaceships, so I would appreciate if someone could transfer the collections and add more information.

Unfortunately, I had to shut it down - I was worried about the computer overheating, but it has produced some (not very good) partials.

Code: Select all

#C depth = 129
#C breadth = 11
#CLL state-numbering golly
x = 11, y = 25, rule = B3/S23-a5

Code: Select all

#C depth = 149
#C breadth = 11
#CLL state-numbering golly
x = 11, y = 27, rule = B3/S23-a5

obo$3obobob3o$b
I might attempt a c/8d search today - I think that still counts for goal #3.
Alternatively, I could feed the knightship partial back into ikpx2 and see if it can extend it further.

I would count a c/10d, but not a c/8d. Still worth trying though, or something else from the task list on page 2.
EDIT:
Remu, should we name 7P2H1V0 the Travelling C? It uses your point that it rotated looks like a C AND connects it to the rule.

Travelling Ts sounds good because it uses alliteration, but Travelling C doesn't.

I believe these two 8-cell SL are the smallest alien SL possible in this rule. Is that correct?

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

Almost certainly, as an alien SL would need at least 6 cells in order to trigger S5. I added a list of the most common patterns shown on the wiki page, and alien patterns are highlighted in yellow. I cannot see any other alien SL with <8 cells.

Speaking of which, I would like some people to edit the page. I will create a seperate page for the SKOPs, so that we can easily update it when a new oscillator is found.

Extending the already long partials seems to be at the limits of ikpx2, and progress is slowing down. The computer I am running the (2,1)c/6 search on is also suffering from some strange problems - the mouse is hard to control and sometimes randomly clicks or moves. Therefore, I will leave ikpx2 running continuously, but if I do not find a knightship by the end of the week, I will move on to other speeds. The most recent partial has only 15 incorrect cells after 6 generations, so I am hopeful.

I tried a c/8d search, but it refuses to produce partials much larger than 20x20. Here is an example:

Code: Select all

#C depth = 73
#C breadth = 14
#CLL state-numbering golly
x = 18, y = 17, rule = B3/S23-a5
3b3o$bo2bo$b2obobo$3bob2o2bo$o7b3o$ob2o2bobo2bo$3b5obo$3bobob3obob
2o$8bo3bobo$3bob2o7b2o$4b5o2b2obob2o$6bo6bobobo$7bobobob4o$7bo5bob
o$10b5o$10bo2bo$10b3o!
Most of the partials are glide reflective like this one, but there are some with diagonal symmetry.
ThePlayzr wrote: June 16th, 2025, 2:39 am I would count a c/10d, but not a c/8d. Still worth trying though, or something else from the task list on page 2.
Assuming that the spaceship has to have a Euclidian speed slower than c/8, c/10d is still too fast. sqrt(2)/10 = 0.1414, which is greater than 0.125.
A c/12d spaceship would count, since sqrt(2)/12 = 0.11785.
Slower spaceships are more difficult to search for, though.

I will try a c/9o search, and I will include the speed in some form inside the number of soups uploaded to ikpx2, so that you can keep track of what I am searching.

EDIT: Whoops, accidentally closed the window due to the poor mouse control. I will switch to searching c/8o.

There's no need to name every pattern - actually, only those who are very commonly referred should have a name, and that name may be exist for such patterns.

It's the one of the four natural spaceships, is also the forth smallest spaceship found, and can be synthesised with 2 Ts.

Resu, can you please make the spaceships in the collection ordered by speed? Having the orthogonal ones go c/2, 2c/5, c/3, 2c/7, c/4, c/7, c/6, c/5 really triggers me. can you just switch c/7 and c/5?
Also, the 2c/5 is not the smallest one:

Code: Select all

 x = 17, y = 40, rule = B3/S23-a5

edit: xq2_43bu: flying F.
So we have the Travelling T, Glider, Climbing C, and Flying F. Do you agree with all the names? If not, then we can change them, but we are not naming any more spaceships.
Please visit my rules (found on my wiki page) and contribute!

I agree with the names.

I think that it might be possible to make a growing spaceship using this reaction - it moves at 14c/42, but we can use rakes to assemble the big blinker trail at c/2. A rake with a period that is a multiple of 10 might be necessary, though.

Yeah, that was what I was thinking, but will the synthesis interact with the below big blinker?

I tested, and you cannot insert a big blinker in front using backrakes, but I have yet to try inserting it behind or using forerakes.
Also, T + big blinker > 3 Ts + blinker:

Code: Select all

x = 13, y = 3, rule = B3/S23-a5
