yyh_baboon’s rule list

Post by yyh_baboon »

currnetly there is 4 rules in the list: (definitely need to be expanded)
B3-nr4z5y/S23-n4i(Centennal)
B3-c7e/S2-n34i(22Life)
B3-q4w/S2-i34i(DecaLife)
B37e/S2-c34r()

RULE: B3-rn4z5y/S23-n4i
This is a stable rule with many spaceships:
some really common ones:
c/2,2c/4(B/century),2c/5(pi)

Code: Select all

x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
3o3b3o5b3o$obo3bo2bo3bo3bo$6bob2o3b2ob2o$bo!
(actually ,the rule’s name comes from the B/century ships)
spaceships can be combined:
(infinitely extensible 2c/4)

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
 3ob3ob3ob3o$obobobobobobobo$obobobobobobobo!
some other interesting ones:
2c/6

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
 2bo$bobo$bobo2$2o$2o$o$2bo$b4o$bo3bo$3b3o!
3c/6

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
bo$3o$obo$bo2$2bo$2b2o$4bo$2b2o!
4c/8

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
3o$obo$obo$3bo$bobo$bo!
A very interesting 28c/56 that emits huge amounts of sparks which can be used to make various p28,p56 and p112 spaceships/puffers/rakes:

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
3o$ obob3ob3o$ob3obobo2bo$4bobobob2o!
p22 rake:

Code: Select all

 x = 0,y = 0,rule = B3-rn4z5yS23-n4i
 b3ob3o$o2bobo2bo$o2bobo2bo$2o5b2o$2bo3bo!

many interesting oscillators exist as well;

A very notably interesting rule indeed!
A very small 2c/6 spaceship which, hopefully, would emerge from soup search results soon enough.

In general, avoid creating a separate thread for one specific cellular automaton. Posting in an already-existing thread is almost always a better idea. (Related discussion)

What happens in practice is that most such threads are abandoned, cluttering the forums, with only a few replies. There are way too many CA of the same type to investigate each of them in depth. There are already forum threads created specifically to collect posts about any CA, avoiding the need to start lots of threads for non-notable topics. For specific CA, posting in one of those existing threads is almost always a better choice, compared to starting a new thread:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=803 Thread For Your Unrecognised CA
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1971 Miscellaneous Discoveries in Other Cellular Automata

Note also the forum rules 3a ("Do not post multiple messages consecutively in the same topic. If your message is the most recent one in a topic, simply edit it if you have additional things to add.") and 4 ("This is an academic forum, not a chat or microblogging platform. Please spend some time doing some research to familiarize yourself with what is and isn't already known about the Game of Life before posting your discoveries.") viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2092

  • Most cellular automata that were explored by at least one people are interesting enough to have a post in an existing forum thread, such as MDiOCA or TfYUCA or TfYAD. The forum rules ( viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2092 ) apply; in particular, describe what pattern(s) you're posting, link to any relevant sources for patterns made by other people (who discovered what and when).
  • However, most of such CA aren't interesting enough to deserve a separate forum thread just for a specific cellular automaton. Usually there are only a few posts about a given CA, and discussion in an existing thread (such as those linked above) is better than making a new thread that will soon be abandoned.
  • In some cases, when there is already substantial amount of discussion/exploration of some CA, with several people other than the initial discoverers involved, sometimes that can add up to evidence that the CA deserves a separate forum thread. (Then probably the first post of the new thread should clearly present the status of exploration; what's already known and what is unknown, who discovered what, what are reasons to choose and investigate further this particular cellular automaton (why it's interesting).)
pifricted wrote: May 1st, 2025, 9:49 am Is this rule enough interesting to have a post in OCA subfourm?

Code: Select all

x = 311, y = 53, rule = B3-q6i/S2-i35i
(Also, you need already existing evidence of interest from other people, before starting a new thread.
Just because someone might reply now with a claim that it's "interesting", doesn't mean it was a good idea to start the thread.)

Perhaps you have a point, confocaloid. However, you cannot doubt that this rule has much potential for c/2 and 2c/5 technology.

I certainly can doubt many things, in particular those that weren't clearly defined or explained. Despite being active here in last three years or so, I'm unaware of any reasonably clear definition or explanation of what would count as "potential for such-and-such technology".

A short version of what I wrote earlier could be that, in general, it's almost always better to post in an existing thread, rather than making a new one (and if you don't know what are existing threads and what is going on in the local community, that's a good reason to spend some time "lurking around" and reading more).
