Here's my take on this:islptng wrote: March 13th, 2025, 6:27 pm Suggestion:
Since we have multiple R2INT rules, why not make 2 slides to control speed, one step(default 1), one speed(default 60)? So that adjusting speed slide to a number below 60 won't display the middle generation. Add a command [[ R2INT ]] if you want, what it does is: Set the base step to 2, and identifying works slightly different.
Instead of using obscure-looking script commands such as [[ R2INT ]], we could instead use more intuitive script commands like [[ STEPINCREMENT 1..8 ]], for example. [[ STEPINCREMENT 2 ]] would function the same as [[ R2INT ]] would in this context. This also adds more flexibility (if, for example, one decides to make a Range-3 INT rule with an emulator ruletable).
Also, instead of being forced to use [[ NOTHROTTLE ]] for guaranteeing even step sizes, instead, a better option would be to throttle only at even generations (or any generation divisible by the STEPINCREMENT value).

When in doubt, <s>check Lifeline</s> do hard refresh of your browser. Often there's cached old version of LifeViewer. It may be necessary to wait a few hours until the update is available.

Re: lifeviewer bug
The most likely issue that you are experiencing is that Build 1281 is the version you currently have cached on your browser. To access the build number, click on the Help button at the top right. If it is Build 1281, you can hard refresh your browser by pressing Ctrl+F5.

Re: lifeviewer bug
Interestingly enough old versions of LV did exactly that -- I can confirm build 307 (which is still live on the Marc Niemec Lifepage archive) has two sliders, one for step and one for speed.confocaloid wrote: March 13th, 2025, 6:39 pm ^^ That might (or might not, up to developers to decide) make sense to do both in LifeViewer and in Golly. Allow adjusting the base step and the delay independently from each other. So it would be possible to have base step 17 with delay 2 seconds, or to have base step 1 with delay 1/8 seconds, and so on.

Re: lifeviewer bug
A note on LifeViewer versions:
- Your browser will cache LifeViewer. This means you might not always be using the latest version.
- You can see which version you have by pressing the Help button:
- "LifeViewer Standard build 1283"
- If you clear the browser's cache and refresh the page it will sometimes get the latest version.
- On Chrome you can do this with Ctrl-F5.
- This will work on the LifeViewer Home Page.
- If the website is hosted on a Content Delivery Network (like the forums here) this browser refresh won't always work.
- The CDN will cache contents for up to 4 hours after which you'll get the latest.

Re: lifeviewer bug
In build 1284, when opening a viewer, the playback speed defaults to 1/s instead of 1x. I assume this is a unintentional consequence of a recent change, I initially thought that playback doesn't work at all.

Re: lifeviewer bug
Here is a bug from 1284:
- Select and randomize a pattern.
- Run the pattern without deselecting.
- Revert the pattern. The random pattern will no longer be selected.
- Pressing Ctrl+Z not only 'reselects' the random pattern, but it also undoes the randomization.

Re: LifeViewer bug on mobile devices
I have to give this bug a dedicated name.
What build when this bug is introduced? I forgot, but I know that bug should be exist since October 2023 or earlier.
This applies to every pop-up viewers, and some embedded viewers such as those in LifeWiki or Catagolue. The only known place unaffected by this bug is the conwaylife.com main page and lazyslug.com.

Re: lifeviewer bug
At some point recently, LifeViewer selections began working in an unexpected way.
For the following pattern, I expect "Select all" to select a 30-by-30 region (all nonzero cells), the same how it does in Golly, and I believe how LifeViewer did before.
Instead it now selects a small 8-by-13 region.
In general, "Select all" should select all nonzero cells, regardless of their meanings/interpretations.

Re: LifeViewer bug on mobile devices
The bug still persist.
Another bug, also possible only on touchscreen devices:
1. Use two fingers to zoom, and drag both fingers away from the screen. When a finger goes out of the screen, the camera instantly teleports to a faraway location.

In order to fix any bug I need a repeatable set of steps that reproduces the problem, along with details of the device and browser. Without this information it's unlikely to get fixed.PiSpaceships wrote: March 27th, 2025, 4:19 pm Sometimes LifeViewer blocks so nothing can be did except zooming.
