To my eye, phases 1, 3, and 5 that you posted look fairly ear-like (as in a human ear, if you rotate them from how you posted). I think I'm a fan of the first one for being the lowest population.
A fishing line catalyst is any of several families of modifications of eater 1, as shown below. The common theme is a diagonal chain of dominoes touching each other at vertices ("fishing line"), allowing gliders to pass closer than would be possible with just eater 1. The exact way of terminating the diagonal chain of dominoes is unimportant, as long as it does not sabotage the improved clearance for passing gliders. In particular, a fishing line catalyst can be made symmetric, with one object replacing two eater 1s.

Of course up to FWKnightship for the name, but proposing the name "Water Strider" for the new smallest 31c/240 (and it's minor reductions) to keep with insect references.
EDIT:It's also kind of rectangle/square-shaped, like a water strider.

I guess the name can also be applied to any reductions.
EDIT 3: Just realized Calcyman completely predicted the layout of Mannaz/Water Strider

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.
Anivec (who you still know as AlbertArmStain on the forum if you don't use Discord) has, somewhat jokingly, called the highlighted region below "er", as it was described as being a loafer without a loaf. (Just ignore the other five cells.) It's ranked #58 (zero-indexed) in census.rle, and I've seen it a decent amount.
This is a procedural crosspost, as it's not my name.

The objects in question are above the arrows. I know it might be in others but I couldn't find any with a surface-level search of the wiki. Maybe call it a "fer" so it doesn't get confused?
EDIT: Both types, side by side, so one can see that they are the same object:

IMO, "used in spaceships" would mean that someone actually wanted to use it (had an intent to use it; tried to use that particular configuration) in those spaceships. But I don't think that kind of claim can be supported by what is known.
Most likely, that configuration simply happened to appear in some spaceships or patterns before, without being deliberately added there.
Hence a question. Does it seem useful to isolate that configuration, when looking at those patterns where it happens to occur? Can it be considered (in some useful, illuminating way) a "component" or "building block" of some sort?
Other than because it exists, why does this object need a name? It's not going to become any more interesting just because it got a name.

That's absolutely true. I think that it could be a useful building block, but there are simply too few spaceships for which it is a part of.
Only slightly related: on the Loafer page on the wiki, in the "in other rules" part, it is called the foot of the loafer.
Helloshe, I like pentadecathlons and small-period motifs.
I may not be very skilled in search programs, but I have many ideas.

Abbreviating the e9jp as Y (but not properly naming it) randomly popped into my head one day. However, I’m also proposing the sequence on the right be called Y’ since the e9jp evolved into it plus a spark, but all e9jp conduits I know of don’t interact that late:
There were already a bit too many discussions/arguments about how one might name the active object appearing in the Speed Tunnel.
My current preference is to refer to it as "JJ", because it appears in the Jubjub reflector.
Any attempt to use just a single letter looks problematic to me, I think it doesn't really need a single-letter abbreviation (best to reserve the remainder of the alphabet for something that would be clearly and unambiguously useful), and some of suggested letters are more problematic than others.

I think the name "p14 baker's dozen" is fine. The name implies that it's the p14 equivalent to a baker's dozen. The claimed name wasn't "p14 baker's dozen hassler".
I'm putting my vote in for "baker's cousin"

I guess I just haven't been active here in a while then. It appears the mods completely deleted that post without notifying me which is kind of upsetting, I would've at least liked to have known they considered it spam when I was trying to contribute in good faith. I figured if hotdogPi's post was allowed then mine was.
I realize there's a difference and will be more careful in the future.

Rather than deleting the original post, I think it would make more sense to move the original post into a thread where it would fit better, and instead delete the unnecessary "reposting-to-move-future-discussion" quote.

Yup, confocaloid's suggestion would have been better.
I deleted the original post because a complete copy was saved in WhiteHawk's cross-posting. To get rid of the duplication I would have had to delete either the original post or WhiteHawk's cross-posting -- but WhiteHawk's cross-posting had more information in it.
I.e., the naming suggestion was in fact a little bit off-topic, though very minorly so. It was a little bit different from hotdogPi's existing-name-explanation post. WhiteHawk's post explained the reason for the shift to this thread. So I left that post in place.

I believe that any multiple-letter name is problematic, but accented letters are fine. Maybe Ĵ could be used as the letter so Y is freed up for a “X-to-Y”?

Working on a jslife-like Travelling Ts pattern collection.
About two years ago, I named this and a lot of variants on Catagolue as "p8 flipper with [specific variant]" on Catagolue, since it was appearing seminaturally a decent amount. With new G2 searches running, more and more stator variants are being found.
A few days ago, Discord user "rabbit" (not sure if she has an account on the forum) accidentally called the above form "table flipper", I at the time forgot I named it on Catagolue, and I told her that the oscillator is currently unnamed and was asking if that should be the new name (without knowing it was a mangling of "p8 flipper with mirrored tables" at first). She thought "table flipper" was a good name despite it being an error at first.
However:
* The form with hats is both fewer cells and more common, which would make "table flipper" meaningless if it was the base form.
* The long hook with tail form is actually the most common form; I can't figure out why, since a sampling of soups shows it forming in many different ways with no common predecessor.
I noticed this specific spark reaction in several places on several oscillators recently, and would like to propose the name "honey thumb" for it. Two different predecessors (one from most oscillators where I have seen the spark and one from the p45 I constructed with it)
