Maxing out Identify with small high-period patterns

Post by muzik »

Currently, LifeViewer's upper limit for Identify is 4194304 generations, which likely isn't going to be increasing any time soon. This works for most patterns, but there have been some outliers I've come across, which has me curious: what's the fastest way we can reach the max period limit with a small pattern (discounting any glitches such as a blatantly low-period object not being recognised)?

This c/40 million and something gets us there in roughly fifty seconds on my end:

Code: Select all

x = 38, y = 3, rule = 12cik3aejnr4ijnr6a/2cek3aj4aj5ar6ci7/3
.36AB$A2.A2.A2.A2.AB2AB2AB.A2.AB2AB2AB.A.B.A$37AB!
This domino replicator shuttle caps out at around 25 seconds:

Code: Select all

x = 54, y = 2, rule = B2ae/S
bo48bobo$o49bo2bo!
Some small Margolus oscillators take a comparable amount of time:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 6, rule = M0,1,2,3,4,10,6,11,8,9,5,13,12,14,7,15
b3o$2bo$bob2o$3b3o$bo2b3o$bob2obo!

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 6, rule = M0,1,2,3,4,10,6,11,8,9,5,13,12,14,7,15
b3o$2bo$bob2o$3b2o$bo2bo$bob2o!
At a bounding box of 7 by 8, this may be the fastest I've found:

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 7, rule = M0,1,2,3,4,10,6,11,8,9,5,13,12,14,7,15
5bo$5b2o$4bo2bo$5bobo$bob3obo$5bobo$4bo!
Can anyone find even faster ways to reach the period limit?
