This is periodic (p11), however, I think the solution is "functionally stable" (it should work correctly regardless of the timing of the active reaction):

That spark is usually called domino (it is a polyomino, unlike the other 2-bit polyplet which is "two alive cells joined diagonally").

Yes, you're alright ! It's a domino not a duoplet, I was mistaken.
I was also mistaken in the eveness of the spark domino period - it must be odd to be sure that the domino will be present at the right Blinker phase.
It works also with a p5 delayed domino sparker, but it's bigger than your solution :

Yes, I just posted the first sparker I found that worked at all. (Given the envelope, it would work with figure eight too, if only figure eight somehow were an odd-period oscillator.) The idea of using a sparker to remove an unwanted object in a timing-independent way is probably very old, and was mentioned in the discussion viewtopic.php?p=157788#p157788 among other places (although that discussion mentioned removing an unwanted block instead of blinker), probably useful to keep in mind as a possibility.

As confocaloid points out, this will potentially be dependent on exactly what the reaction is. Some catalysts have replacements that work only in specific circumstances. Without seeing exactly what reactions you have in mind here, I can't make a complete judgement of whether a solution exists. I did however write up a brief tutorial explaining how to look for such welds with JLS using your case as an example. After making what I think are reasonable assumptions about what the exact catalysis reactions would be, I unfortunately found that there are no working welds. Let me know in the JLS thread if any part of the tutorial is confusing.

OK thanks a lot.
I'll take care of that for my further requesting help.

Fine ! Thanks you very much.

But I was mistaken.
I isolate the reactions as Sokwe explains in his tutorial and then I realise that the Eater2 doesn't work.
In my previous searches, I was just draw a Block and it seemed to me that it worked as Eater2.
Sorry so.
But I learned something by the way :)

Doublepost, but different topic.

How exactly does a blocker work with the Hotcrystal0 reaction? The Hotcrystal0 Reaction page is really vague on the topic.

Asking due to lack of clarity on SKOPs based on the reaction (below is a p224 loop which would be SKOP 224 if four cells didn't require SI eternal off cells)

Is there a glider collision that would construct a fleet and a paperclip with fewer gliders than would be needed to construct the two targets completely independently from each other?

I don't see obvious stable solutions (other than by arranging three Snarks or something along the same lines), there might be a glider-activated factory that could be adapted to do cleanup here but I didn't find anything that works.

I would prefer a stable solution as it is for a stable conduit (H-to-H).
I also tried some "Glider-activated factories" with no result. As I'm unlucky I found one where the Block catalyses !
I think also about a Thumb, may be a constructed one would work so.

Is there a way to convert the yellow glider into the white block? The blue area should be clear by generation 192, and the red must be completely avoided (it extends diagonally as shown by the arrow. The block needs to have been restored by about gen 220. Slow and large is okay, as long as it fits those requirements.

I assume you would like to see a completion to the p35 gun in B38/S23 as discussed here. If that's the case, I would recommend searching directly in B38/S23, because searching in Life could give a sparker that doesn't work in the desired rule. Also, I would recommend using the exact desired p35 reaction in the LLS search setup. You generally want the minimum possible constraints on the search to begin with. For that reason, I also recommend searching for the glider-liberating sparker without the p5 pipsquirter in place, as the pipsquirter can easily be replaced by a custom sparker, and the glider-liberating sparker needs as much room as possible to make the search more likely to succeed.

Setting up this LLS search with JLS is fairly easy to accomplish by following the process described here. However, since I already set up this search earlier to find the above mentioned partial result, I'll share my initial setup below:
b38s23_p35_gun_setup.zip
(9.19 KiB) Downloaded 51 times
This is a zip archive containing a .jdf file that can be opened and edited with JLS and run directly with LLS. The purpose of this setup was to see if it's even possible for a p5 object to support the glider-liberating reaction. If you want to know how this works, open it in JLS and compare to the p57 setup described here. The basic idea is to keep the search area small and have the border of this small search area be unchecked. The search can then find a partial result the translates the non-p5 cells in the interaction area into a potential starting point for a p5 oscillator. Notice that I used the third subperiod (cyan), but that I set the third subperiod to be period 5. This is because the fourth (pink) and fifth (orange) subperiods, by design, do not obey certain constraints (such as max active cells per layer) in LLS, so if I want to use those constraints I need to use only the first, second, or third subperiods.

The search can be run with the command

Code: Select all

./lls b38s23_p35_gun_setup.jdf -j b38s23_p35_gun
After a while (less than 5 minutes for me using AE_kissat2025_MAB available here) it should find a solution and save it as b38s23_p35_gun_0.jdf in the folder b38s23_p35_gun. Note that due to Python's hash randomization, each run will produce a different solution (although often only different in trivial ways, such as at the unchecked border). You can then open this newly created file in JLS, clear all of the cells that are actually p5 (some of the cells in the p5 sparker will be involved in the glider-liberating reaction, so won't be p5 within the p35 pattern), expand the overall search area, and add restrictions (such as rows of stator cells on the sides). You can then save your new setup and run it in LLS. I suggest making this setup very restrictive to start with (for example, start with a very thin allowed rotor) so that the LLS search finishes quickly (usually unsatisfiable). You can then slowly reduce the restrictions on the search (for example, make the rotor are wider) until the search either succeeds or takes too long.

Also someone could simply try to extend my p5 partial result mentioned above. I did not make any serious attempt to complete it. I was only trying to demonstrate that a solution must exist.

Is there a way to get SKOPs from this oscillator. It has really minimal stators, yet all it's "sparks" end up being too weak or too low-clearance (somehow)
Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

Can anyone do a search to find a catalyst to do this?

Code: Select all

x = 42, y = 20, rule = LifeHistory
15.D17.C$15.D17.C$15.D17.C3.5D$36.6D$13B.3A18.7D$13B2.A9.D8.D2C5D$14B

$18B$18B$18B$18B!
(the catalyst must lie in the blue region, the block can be in any place in the red region: the catalyst can be P2 if needed)
If the catalyst is good enough it may solve the P38 gun problem :)
Definitely not spam
Wondering when the P38 gun will be constructed.

I've also posted this in the oscillator discussion thread, but I'm looking specifically for help completing these p11 pipsquirter partials. If anyone has ideas, catalysts, or search results for this, I'd really appreciate it.
8than888 wrote: July 27th, 2026, 6:25 am I've been working on a p11 pipsquirter partial for months now. After exploring many different mechanisms, I've come very close to completing the pipsquirter multiple times now, but it kept failing. I'm posting these partials in the hope that someone recognizes a useful reaction or has search results that could help.

I found an activation that directly activates the pipsquirter using a traffic-light predecessor. It leaves a blinker which I tried to turn back.
