With triangular tiling, one could argue that there are two different neighbourhoods, one used only for triangles "pointing north", another used only for triangles "pointing south". The difference can be ignored if the rules are completely isotropic; otherwise things can become complicated and differently oriented triangular cells can follow different rules.
