how exactly would you go across converting something like this

Intepreting your post as "An object does not exist if we don't know of a 4-glider synthesis for it", Gardens of eden do not exist. This countradicts the garden of eden theory, and as both grin and pre-block evolve to block, and thus there are an infinite number of 4-glider collisions. The other conclusion (finite number of objects) is obviously wrong, as barge, tub and friends would say.

I predict that 3 is the largest number of gliders for which a finite number of collisions producing distinct and different objects exists.

I'd argue that that is a major misinterpretation of what was written.

Note the word 'probably' in the original post, and the fact that "it" means "a 4-glider synthesis" (rather than "an object").

This part is hard to read. Can you explain what you mean here?

Why "distinct and different"? Is there some nonobvious difference or distinction that's supposed to be captured by writing "distinct and different" instead of either writing just "distinct" or writing just "different"?

Also, what do you mean by an object? With three gliders, it is already possible to create infinitely many distinct target patterns.

1-engine corderoids exist in some OCA, particularly some that self-corderize from a bare engine.

I assume this is a prediction about Conway's Life?
Otherwise here is an one-engine Cordership (the switch engine remains "essentially the same", although its evolution is "slightly" adjusted by evolving it in a range-2 cellular automaton instead of CGoL):

Code: Select all

x = 30, y = 28, rule = R2,C0,S18-24,26-35,60,B27-35,NW00010001000109090901000900090001090909010001000100

7bo$28bo!
#C [[ THEME MCell ZOOM 8 TRACKLOOP 96 8/96 8/96 ]]
I think there is some lack of understanding/clarity on what would "count" (and what wouldn't "count") as one-engine Cordership.
Imagine an extremely large engineered arrangement of interacting parts behind a switch engine, where each "atomic" part in isolation would be too simple to be an engine (so there would be indeed just one engine, the switch engine). Would that count?

I predict it will be proven impossible for an oscillator in B3/S238 with Period-3 to conjure up S8, this may apply to p5 and p7 oscillators as well.

That looks unlikely. Here is a patch containing the 3-by-3 condition 'S8/D8'. The marked patch is restored 3 ticks later (although the outer cells change states). I don't see a reason why a complete oscillator would be impossible.

Since my original prediction today has fallen through, here are a few more:

There are true-period oscillators of all periods all periods greater than or equal to 2 which query B8 in Pedestrian Life and S8 in EightLife. Additionally, there is at least one oscillator which queries B8 or S8 conditions at true period (e.g. the Tub With Tail rock hassler evolution in B38/S23 doesn't count since B8 is triggered every seven steps, though the oscillator is p14)

There is no p2 oscillator in B38/S238 which queries B8 and S8 (excluding welds of Pedestrian Life and EightLife oscillators).

There are non-LCM oscillators which query both B8 and S8 in HoneyLife for all periods greater than 30.

Lists of missing periods to prove or deny these predictions can be found on each of the respective threads for these rules.

EDIT:

I take it that by "all periods 2-infinity" you mean "all periods greater than or equal to 2".

What do you mean by the and part, exactly? Do you mean some sort of oscillator that evolves slightly differently in B38/S23 and in B3/S238, or that part should instead be interpreted as two separate predictions (one about alien B38/S23 oscillators of all periods and another about alien B3/S238 oscillators of all periods)?

The hook with tail is a still life (apgcode xs8_32qk), and not an oscillator.
I take it that you probably mean the p14 oscillator xp14_y31784czwggxg44240oxg88czc452w1608g8821w23zy5c84ozy811 since it seems to match the description.

As far as I know "true period oscillator" is not an existing term.

There is a term 'true period gun'. A true period gun is a gun whose mechanism has the same period as the output spaceship stream. (In contrast, a pseudo period gun is a gun whose mechanism has a higher period than the output spaceship stream. Then the period of the mechanism must be an integer multiple of the period of the output spaceship stream.)

However, this idea fails to work for oscillators, because there is no output spaceship stream, and hence there is no second period to compare.

  • At least 2 new replacements for SKOPs currently held by rectifier loops
  • Synthesis of every natural object in life
  • Reduction to the p35 gun
  • p18 or p38 gun
  • p66 pi hassler, p68 honey farm and TL hasslers, and a promising p58 partial honey farm hassler
EDIT: One down for "At least 2 new replacements for SKOPs currently held by rectifier loops"

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 28, rule = B3/S23

Also reduces number of SKOPs with a minimum population higher than their period by 1

EDIT 2: "At least 2 new replacements for SKOPs currently held by rectifier loops" prediction is correct.

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.
