I think it's funny how the Angel in DryLife spits out a single blinker like in life, but only after 38 generations. Additionally, it only dies after sixty more generations, finally dying at gen 98.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B37/S23
2bo$2ob2o$bobo$2bo!
By comparison, the Angel in life produces it's Blinker 4 generation in (same orientation) and dies completely in 2 more generations.

Code: Select all

x = 5, y = 4, rule = B3/S23
2bo$2ob2o$bobo$2bo!
Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

Some times it stabillizes very fast, some times you can get long-lasting methuselae and some times you don't even know when will it end.

I ran that pattern with LifeViewer's Identify feature (only once), and after 4 1/2 milion generations, it just stopped with no information.

Even in a smaller torus, the lifespan apparently can be very high. I ran a 41-by-37 version in Golly for 50 megaticks, and by that time it did not settle into any period below 1 megatick:

I don't know whether at T = 50,000,000 it remains merely a predecessor of some oscillator, or by that time it already settled into a phase of some high-period oscillator with period above 1,000,000. (I would expect the former, as in small tori most soups eventually settle into low-period oscillators.)

At some point, the "river" changes direction. I counted 3 times if i'm right.
I have ran the Identify feature 3 times, and it still gives nothing.
Assuming your "settled into osc" conjecture is true, the period is more than 14.000.000. :o :o

For the first pattern, it is destined to be an infinite growth, at about generation 2^21. Still big.
You can make it a sawtooth to get this:

Code: Select all

x = 6, y = 6, rule = 02i3i/2aen3iy4ct/3
4.BA$A3.2A$4.2A$4.2A$A3.2A$4.BA!
The pattern's population is never odd, due to its symmetry. And yes, it is a tetrational sawtooth. (Are there even pentational sawtooths, or higher?)

In the second pattern, after running it for 7.5 million generations (in golly), it just looks like a big plus. The vertical line has puffers, and an oblique line of spaceships that has slope ≈25.

Well, my signature is officially cool.
tetration is my favorite

Code: Select all

x = 18, y = 18, rule = 02i3i/2aen3iy4ct/3

A p120 glider loop oscillator, using four instances of a "single transparent block" stable glider reflector with transparent output glider lane:

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

[see post]
I don't know whether at T = 50,000,000 it remains merely a predecessor of some oscillator, or by that time it already settled into a phase of some high-period oscillator with period above 1,000,000. (I would expect the former, as in small tori most soups eventually settle into low-period oscillators.)
At some point, the "river" changes direction. I counted 3 times if i'm right.
I have ran the Identify feature 3 times, and it still gives nothing.
Assuming your "settled into osc" conjecture is true, the period is more than 14.000.000. :o :o
At the time of writing, i need to go to sleep soon. Good night, i guess.

Also, this weird and sparky frontrake:

Code: Select all
