How about synthesising 21-bit pseudo still lifes? There are a total of 273188 strict and 179011 pseudo 21-bit still lifes, which is less than 672172, so it's definitely doable.

As far as I know, Catagolue doesn't "understand" the difference between a pseudo still life, a quasi still life, and an arbitrary constellation.

For example, from the total number of 8-bit strict still lives and 8-bit pseudo still lives, it would be reasonable to expect to see the biblock (xs8_rr) on the first page of the tabulation census/b3s23/synthesis-costs/xs8. However, the biblock is not present on the first page; instead, that page lists all nine 8-bit strict still lives, followed by many stable 8-bit constellations.

This might become a problem with higher bit-counts (e.g. xs21), if/when the synthesis-costs tabulation includes so many (relatively uninteresting) constellations that some (relatively more interesting) pseudo still lives and/or quasi still lives are lost.

Hi! A little late to the party, but posting within the 1 year timeframe to not officially be necroposting, and I would at least like to put this idea out there before this thread is "forgotten".

As an eventual "next step", perhaps synthesizing (or at least repairing failed syntheses) of all 22-and-lower-bit still-lifes in the Outer-totalistic rulespace B3/S23 - B378/S2378 could be attempted since the set of finite still-lifes are preserved from life 1:1. Obviously it will be easier to start with the rulespace B3/S23 - B38/S238, since those rules are a lot more similar to life than rules in the B3(7(8))/S23(7(8)) space and more syntheses would be conserved. While lower-cost alien syntheses would still be good to tabulate, focusing more on correcting failed syntheses would likely be more important for this project.

For the moment it may be more important to focus on establishing the lower bound of synthesis for Life, but it may also be important if serious effort to elevate at least the Life-Like rules of B3(8)/S23(8) to B3/S23 standards ever arise within the community.

As a continuation of my work on 21-bits pseudo still-lifes, I proved in a similar way that all pseudo xs22 can be synthesised. The searches took about twice more time in total, but the entire project took less than three days to complete.

(there are a few depth-3 results here, since my automatic depth-3 search was not exhaustive).

Most of my remarks from the linked post are still true, but I would like to add some clarifications :
- the simple 3G block addition component can solve 25% of all pseudo-xs22 in 202s on my machine, probably one of the first component to try.
- the boat-bit does only 3% in 77s (so probably not the first thing to try)
- doing the searches roughly in the order prescribed can removed 30% to 70% of the remaining ones each time
- after an exhaustive depth-1 search and nothing more, only 293 still-lifes remained (about 0.05%)

Probably not in this case, since the cost of synthesizing xs22_oe13zi3s453z11 incrementally is already so low (12G).

At least ... I'm thinking that the latest stage where all the pieces of the soup reaction are recognizable and easy to synthesize separately would be
