Glider In 3D automata discovered.

Post by NoFreeWill »

I have been investigating 3D cellular automata and today I have discovered a glider the travels in a 3D matrix.

The rule is B4.

The seed is defined by the following C++ fragment:

Code: Select all

for (i = 10; i <=11; i++)
{
	ordinates[0] = i;
	ordinates[1] = 10;
	ordinates[2] = 10;
	space->setCell(ordinates, 1);
}
for (i = 10; i <=11; i++)
{
	ordinates[0] = i;
	ordinates[1] = 13;
	ordinates[2] = 10;
	space->setCell(ordinates, 1);
}
for (i = 10; i <=11; i++)
{
	for (j = 11; j <= 12; j++)
	{
		ordinates[0] = i;
		ordinates[1] = j;
		ordinates[2] = 11;
		space->setCell(ordinates, 1);
	}
}

It is quite simple to create spaceships in 3D:B4/S. Here are some p1 ships:

Code: Select all

0110
0110

1001
1001

Code: Select all

0110
0110

1000
1000

0001
0001

Code: Select all

0110
0110

0000
0000

1001
1001

Code: Select all

0000
0110
0110
0000

0100
1000
0001
0010

Code: Select all

0000
0110
0110
0000

0100
1000
0000
0000

0000
0000
0001
0010

Code: Select all

0000
0110
0110
0000

0000
0000
0000
0000

0100
1000
0001
0010

Code: Select all

0110
0110
0000

0000
0000
0110

0000
1001
0000
The only p2 one I know of:

Code: Select all

110
110
000

000
001
010
I can post images of these spaceships if you want. I have made all codes by hand, so there may be errors.

Which software are you using to run your automata Alexey?

I made a couple of simple programs, which you can download if you want.

The first program, which is attached, runs patterns defined by the user. The input file format is quite simple. The first three lines contain one number each. The first number is the number of characters per line, the second one is the number of lines per block, and the third one is the number of blocks. Then comes one empty line. After that line you should write your pattern just like I did it in my previous post. Then add an exclamation mark on a new line. Example:

Code: Select all

4
2
2

0110
1001

0110
1001
!
(Oh, and in case you didn't understand, "начать" means "go". Excuse me for using the Russian language.)

The second program, which was too large to attach, is available from Yandex.Disk. It runs random soups and allows seven different neighbourhoods.

Life3D-1.zip
The first program.

I'm starting to study "3-LFOD" (B4S0)
Here is a dot puffer:

Code: Select all

6
6
2

000000
000100
000010
000000
000000
000000

000000
000000
001100
001100
000000
000000
!
I'm wondering: do B?/S? rules

Incomplete sentence, sorry.
I'm wondering if a balanced 3D B?/S? rule exists , bearing the same complexity as the GoL.
It willl be hard to find it.
Why? Let's take a look to B, as the smallest possible birth condition often determines the rule.
At B1 and B2, everything explodes quickly.
B3 explodes too, because of the 3-blinker, which moves while "blinking, leaving tons of junk.
B4 is explosive to a lesser point. It is somewhere between 2D's B2 and B3. You need a "block" to start the reactions and explosivity.
I still don't know for higher birth rates

What is known, however, is that B10 or more is always stable, as such a pattern cannot grow. The range is from B5 to B9! and then there are 27 different still rules! Augh!

There is a 10 cell {1,1,0}c/4 glider in B6/S57, its building box is 3x3x2.
That rule can simulate Gol as long as there are never 6 cells in a 3x3 square.

Can someone who has the program please run the bullet heptomino in some B7/S? rules and post what happens?
I suspect it can be a {1,0,0}c/4 spaceship engine.

What do you mean by "bullet heptomino"? Can you make a 3d image?
(like this:

Yes:

The proposed direction of travel is perpendicular to the plane so to be a spaceship it needs a tail behind it.
The front however moves one step forward in 4 stages, think about the next plane in front of it:
1) A cell in the centre is born.
2) A cell below the centre is born because of that new cell.
3) This creates two more cells in the middle sides.
4) Finally the top and bottom corners complete the cycle.

The range is from B5 to B9!
I would look at B6 and B7 first.
The reason is that sustained light-speed propagation into vacuum, a strong sign of explosiveness, is possible in some B5 rules such as B58/.
0110
1111
1111
0110
This pattern is a light-speed replicator in that rule and if some cells are added to one side a small light-speed puffer may result, a symptom of explosive expansion.

I suggest a script be written for finding spaceships by adding soup to one side of a suspected engine.

Here is a way for one glider to eat another in B6,7/S5,6,7:

Code: Select all

The blinker 3D: B6/S5

Code: Select all

3

010
010

010
010

010
010
!
And this pattern results in two large still lifes at around gen 43 in B6/S4567

Code: Select all

4
2
4

1111
1111

0011
0011
