Someone on Discord has found that the "B0 indicator" for determining whether odd periods can exist or not is determined solely by whether the rule begins with "b0". https://catagolue.hatsya.com/object/xp2 ... tawayazav2 is a false positive despite being a custom rule. I would guess B130/anything is a false negative, but I haven't checked.

So this is a LifeViewer bug, not Catagolue/apgsearch.
(possibly because generations 2 and 5 have the same set of state 1 cells, then why is my pattern identified as p6?)

The following may be considered either an actual bug or an "oddity" to keep in mind, depending on one's viewpoint.

The line "Objects per contributor since 2015-02-27" above the chart is always the same, regardless of the CA (for example, Speciation was not apgsearched before May 2024). That line does not carry any knowledge about the history of exploration of the specific ruleset.

I would expect either the actual date of the first submitted haul (instead of "2015-02-27") or absence of any specific date on the census page.

Turned out, gun_9999 triggered not one, but two bugs:
1. Failed gun detection (issue #28);
2. Hang in synthesis processing.

In the latest commit, two glider guns of periods 8213 and 9847 (from this post) are not accepted.

While I am on this topic, by the way, I want to repeat the request of having this issue resolved. There are still many slots in the four-digit range to be filled, and rejecting gun periods higher than 8192 (?) but below 10000 contradicts that purpose.

This problem was fixed in commit f7dadbc7. I resubmitted your 2 guns and they should appear in Catagolue in 2 hours.
It's sad it took 2 years to do this, but it is nice that 14..9999 collection now have possibility to be completed.

It is possible to add check without creating inconvenience for users - by adding timeouts to appropriate places, or by limiting amount of computations in other way. "maxexp=100" in shinjuku\transcode.py does not look right.

However, something wrong happened during processing of the submitted RLE, leading to a corrupted pattern on Catagolue

I noticed strange bounding box calculations by Catagolue several months ago.
Because I wasn't sure if it's a bug or not and because changing of calculation will invalidate area values for many guns, I did not talked about it.
Also this problem was "silent". Now, when explosive consequences were discovered, something should be done with it.

In gun_1650 case, Catagolue detects bounding box of 53x55 and then crops gun in this state:

In this case, the correct bounding box is 57-by-53. In the following phase, there is a glider that will fail to escape away; since that glider does not escape, all cells that are alive at least once during the lifetime of the glider and its interaction with xp30_w33z8kqrqk8zzzw33 belong in the bounding box of the gun. The canonical phase (the one with an output glider about to leave the bounding box) appears 845 ticks later:

I mentioned this on Discord a few days ago but will repeat it here:

I found a few patterns where there's an intermediate step that's cheaper, but the final pattern shows a more expensive step for some reason. This happened for a couple spaceships and oscillators even where I submitted something recently that should have lowered the cost.

• xq4_y258880638gszwu1w32gkoz34j0ozx11 claims to cost 68G and shows the intermediate xp2_o8y62c34z012462461tazw8ak4y0113 as costing 12G over the still life, but that particular page shows it costing only 8G over the still life to add the clocks

• xq4_y0gmdxsg8zsg4knfzwg01f6zw321 claims to cost 51G and shows the intermediate xp2_06a8o0o4a952zy1hhowca23gg8z653032y5211 as costing 6G to add the clock, but that particular page shows it costing only 4G

• 6 David Hilbert variants have syntheses at https://catagolue.hatsya.com/census/b3s ... costs/xp23, three costing 91G and three 96G, but they all start with xs32_ydo8b9czyg356zo8gz0d5k46zw11 which costs 12G in one step, but the expensive synths show it as 17G in five steps, despite being the exact same pair of still lifes
