cellular automata lore
once, there was an eternity of random black spots appearing and dissapearing on a grid. it never started. it never ended. at least, until order was formed. a being was suddenly forced into the world among the chaos. he was named b3/s23. he made sure that every cell only died of underpopulation and overpopulation, and that each cell had 3 parents. of course, this was not the only world. only just the first. b34/s34. b6/s16. b2/s0. by the way, every world was named after it’s god. b23/s23. b1/s2. factories were producing these. until suddenly, b12/s2-a. what is that? no one ever saw LETTERS where there should be NUMBERS! more and more of these rules were made, factories were built for these rules in specific. b3ai/s2. b6/s1-aeik. 010101010110. 011000101010101010110. wait what? they stopped generating letters, just rule tables! rule tables, the most powerful world. langton’s loops, lifehistory, rainbow, langton’s ant, evoloop, these were popping up everywhere! out of the second chaos, another being was forced into existance. it was not a being, but a collection of a beings called conwaylife.com. they were the mega-factory. every second their clever minds had thought up another rule table. and this is where we are now, among the chaos making more rule tables by the second. we started with chaos, and we ended with chaos. our rule tables are a bit more fancy now, but they are still the same in spirit. our only chance to end the chaos is to make one ruletable to consume all rule table. trillions of states, quadrillions of variables, quintillions of rules. this rule will delete all chaos, but also delete us. nothing will be out of order. no more factories. it’s all in this rule. we sacrifice ourself for true peace. true entropy.

Re: cellular automata lore
Decided to bump an early thread created by the OP, due in part to the fact that it (compared to the recent activity) seems too fun to get lost forever in the chaos.
How about reusing this forum thread as a place to put the majority of your posts here, instead of scattering them over the forums? I think that could work.

Yes, I think this thread is more *ahem, ahem* interesting than many other Sandbox threads...confocaloid wrote: June 22nd, 2024, 12:56 pm Decided to bump an early thread created by the OP, due in part to the fact that it (compared to the recent activity) seems too fun to get lost forever in the chaos.

I do not think B3/S23 would be the first rule the eternal chaos of black spots will converge to. What would be the simplest such rule? Ideally it would be a rule in a small rulespace or a rule with a simple definition. Even the Moore neighbourhood's definition to me is a tad artificial. A von Neumann rule could be the first rule that was forced into being, due to the neighbourhood definition being more 'natural' in some sense.
I think that assuming a 2D grid the B2/S1V rule could be the first 'interesting' (for some definition of interesting) rule that could have been 'forced' into being, due to it having a simple definition (being pure-totalistic as well as being isotropic).
This could also be a great thread to flesh out the lore, or a thread for discussion of small rulespaces.
Re: cellular automata lore
Is here a place for making stories about CAs?
One day, an ant went out and it wanted to find foods. But strong wind blew it away. When it woke up, it was on a gird.It couldn’t find the way, and it saw some blocks turn white or black. “The blocks must follow any rules, and I must follow some rules to go away here.”it thought.
Langton looked the screen and said:“Wow.A cool ant.”
At last, the ant will never go back home.
