What if I change it? Now I have made glider streams from each of them that collide and annihilate themselves, which efficiently turn it into one single oscillator. If you don't have attention, you may claim it as FIVE different oscillators, from the new RLE I posted in my (personal?) pattern page!

We already basically know what we can do with p30. The real cutting-edge stuff is what we don't know how to do yet--stuff like what you'd find in triller's p30 thread.

You seem to be getting there in learning how to fit gliders together, though. Keep playing around with p30 and asking questions, but bear in mind that this is already explored very thoroughly and you're still getting a handle on how gliders and guns operate.

ok. Jacobi, we know pipsquirter reflects, but what if we use it along with a snark catalyst... somehow?

You can string a Snark and a pipsquirter reflector together to turn a glider 180 degrees, but this loses the advantage that a Snark has of reflecting a glider stream of period above p43 without issue. Making a new reflector is unlikely to work, or at least be any more useful than a pipsquirter reflector or the Snark alone. Let me explain:

The snark's catalyst was discovered with a program called Bellman, for that specific appliciation. When bellman finds large still lifes like the Snark catalyst, it doesn't tell you what it can be used for. Often, the reaction you're examining is the only reaction it can do anything with. Observe:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 16, rule = B3/S23
3bo$2bobo$3bo5b2o$8bobo$b5o2bo$o2bo2bob2o$2o3b2obo2bo$10b2o6$5b3o$5bo
2bo$7b2o!
See that 27-cell catalyst at the top? It reacts with the century, but there has to be that specific combination of cells in front of it, or it just breaks and can't be reused. (I found this catalyst with Bellman, but didn't post it to the Herschel thread because there seems to be no way to coax a glider/Herschel/R/Pi/B/Century/Block-and-glider/anything-useful out of it.)

The Snark catalyst is the same way. It only really works for the specific interaction going on in the Snark.

Wait, an Golgi (I) found manually can hardly pair Bellman's results. Golgi:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 7, rule = B3/S23

Sorry, I forgot. But Golgi 2 (aka Golgi Extended) can EAT!

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
2o$obob2ob2ob2ob2o3b2o$2bobob2ob2ob2obo2b2o$obobo10bo$2o2bo10b7o$4b2o

Having one strong structure in the place of a tail, it can eat more than a simple Eater 1, however being bigger = more mess generated. Also have one TWIT head in a side!
Golgi was named after an organelle in real life cells, but if you want really weird and complex SLs, then meet this beast.
Rockefeller!!!

With the additions, this three-headed monster can chew (eat multiple things at once)!

Huh? Demonstrate how it can do more than a normally-placed TWIT and Eater 1.

Sorry but up to that extent I can't think of anything. Also just updated my last post and added Rockefeller.
EDIT: Mustache Boy!

Gustavo, this thread is for useless discoveries. Your patterns do not fall into this category, therefore please post them in the special thread you've started.

Exactly, I'm unsure about them, since they're one of the worse patterns that could be chosen for eating!

THIS sentence is beautiful.
We should definitely start a thread for "Less than useless discoveries"

I was considering "absurd discoveries", but on second thought I decided that we don't need more than one thread about them.

How about "Gustavo Ramos-esques discoveries"?
I had planned to create this topic on 01/04 for april fools before realizing it already exists.

Wow, he is going to report codeholic? Sorry, cod', but you'll have to kick yourself! :o
More seriously... I like the fact we put tips, tricks and things to generally be a better pattern discoverer in both this and your thread, and you didn't listen to a single one.

Which tips, tricks and things? I really did used them, and well, the results have been not bad :S I wish I could thank you and pardon for this fight we just somehow got... how could I have used them and have not listened in the same time?

Look at you. We told you the wiki was reserved to the top notch of patterns but you kept creating pages.
We told you that a spaceship made with 2 rakes of a known period was worthless but you posted more.
We told you to optimize your patterns but you never did.
We told you tu get jslife to get some examples and/or tools but you didn't.
Need more?

Stop stop here! I DONT HAVE PYTHON, I CANT HAVE FREAKING JSLIFE!!!! Also optimizing has been pretty hard in that for some reason I can't find one better result or don't have patience to... and I don't know what really means by "top notch"! Also I stopped to post rake spaceships since I'm doing one that involve ONE glider rake and ONE LWSS rake. Though I think I'll turn it into a smoking ship or puffer somehow and involve an MWSS siderake and a HWSS one instead.

Why can't you simply ask your mother to install it, if you can't? And do you know that you DON'T need python for jslife, since it's a pattern collection?

There is no any logical connection between python and jslife.
There is also no logical connection between your failure to post anything of interest and you not having python.

jslife is just a collection of patterns, you don't need Python to use it.

I can ban you for a month or so on the forums to help your patience to abstain from posting unoptimized patterns and at the same time give you more time (you were whining in a different thread about lack of it) to read helpful articles, that simsim314 recommended to you. I think it actually might work pretty well.
