180 degree rotation. You can see examples of "B" vs. "Bx" in the current Patterns/Life/Signal-Circuitry/h-to-h-collection stamp collection.

It's also block keeper, but the block is kind of surrounded by catalysts. The second has better output clearance: with the weld shown, it does connect to conduit 1, giving a HRx179H.

Are there any known composite Herschel conduits with a U, J, O, I, Q or D stage?

I know of examples with intermediate I and Q stages:

Well, that makes a G1-to-H or G2-to-H, thought that natural first block from the H cannot be eaten easily, so possible follow up are limited, still I like this weird co-incidence. In theory, it can work as a g-to-h, but getting the glider there is difficult (but not impossible? I assume)

That seems like it should be potentially solvable. It's a bit big for CatForce's 64x64 torus, but I did manage to find this:

Code: Select all

x = 47, y = 55, rule = LifeHistory

11.2A$4.A11.2A$17.A$16.A$16.2A!
It's probably even less usable than that G-to-B, but it does show that there are other ways of eliminating that leftover block.

Nice! Repeat time is 195+8N (depending on how far the reflector has to move) -- which is on the high side compared to most other Herschel conduits in the current collection, but not totally out of the range. And it has to be followed by a dependent conduit, but there are other conduits in the collection with that limitation, too.

Here's three new H conduits: HBx226, HL154H, and HR184H. The output is a bit finicky on the first two. I'd also like to find a better cleanup for the last one, that only uses the FNG of the output. The leftover block is just one lane closer to the glider than for the sparky eaters in the B-to-H's (use FNG to delete the block) in the ECC.

The search strategy to find the first and third were inspired by R49: I've modified CatForce to allow a catalyst-associated filter. Using that functionality, I can have CatForce place the block and snake (as one catalyst) then check (for each of the next N generations) if an R descendent appears in the right spot to restore the block. It's a handy way to generate X-to-H conduits with decent output clearance. I'm calling it "the R49 trick," but we'll see if the name sticks.

EDIT: names now fixed.

I hadn't considered using those! Looking thru barrister results on the speed tunnel from a previous search, I found something that works:

Code: Select all

The repeat time is 257 due to the FNG of the output, 140 if connected to a dependent conduit. Experimenting by hand with a couple periods, it period doubles at 140 and works just fine at 142 due to how the FNG interacts with the H.

edit: this now means that you can fit 2 H's in a loop of 4 of these for a p368 emu.

There's some prior art for Rx140, with a block instead of a snake near the glider output:

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 46, rule = B3/S23

Looks like this was one of the Herschel-conduit-based glider outputs that never made it into the H-to-G collection.

Where is the h conduit collection? (No rle files, please. A life viewer will do)

Why do you need a life viewer version of a collection? I normally just copy and paste the RLE from the Golly clipboard to the code box here.

There is a few zips here that contain some h-to-h conduits but is missing some of the newer ones.
