The beehive is not transparent, a transparent object is a object that is completely destroyed, then rebuilt.

Yup. Usually the catalyst gets worked down to its minimum form (the tub in this case) and then nobody mentions the other ones, since there's rarely or never any use for them.

Using that tub positioning to stop a Herschel and leave a block, before the first natural glider escapes, has been known since at least the 1990s.

I know I'm over a month late, but here's a reduction of the one-cell-thick pulsar predecessor:

Heh, it's probably best to avoid calling anyone a "liar", here on the forums anyway. It doesn't look good on a first reading, even when it's meant as a joke and a sort of back-handed compliment.

I warn :
  • This is my first functionality pattern
  • All is hand made.
  • I'm a beginner (falling in GoL by learning C language [good exercise]).
I've made a Glider Heisenburp using the Pi-heisenburp's reaction.
You 'll correct me if I'm wrong.
But it seems that this heisenburp is adjustable from period 128 to higher.

It use two perpendiculars conduits formed by a Speed Tunnel + Fx153.
One of them is terminated by a H-to-P, the other by a "Tub catalysing a H to Block" (cf. johamwit).
If the glider is present, the Pi-heisenburp's reaction make a Boat (used to reflect the reading glider), if not nothing (the reading glider is eaten externally).

Here's a pattern with 3 p128 guns to provide the necessary streams (the 2 conduits and the reading stream) + the main stream to detect :

Heh, it's probably best to avoid calling anyone a "liar", here on the forums anyway. It doesn't look good on a first reading, even when it's meant as a joke and a sort of back-handed compliment.
:? I've corrected it. It was in sympathy, really.

You can change the bottommost eater to a different catalyst if you want, it is only there to prevent debris from hitting the block after it rematerializes.

I'm unsure, but if not, it should allow one to run switch engines faster through it than through the boat one (which has a massive backward spark)

Good point! I was thinking of the new catalyst as a simple replacement for the boat -- and in fact the new catalyst can be dropped in in place of the two boats at the beginning of the sample pattern. But it's definitely true that there's a very significantly lower repeat time for this switch engine channel, than the boat catalysis allows.

The old repeat time was 256 according to the switch-engine-channel article. The insertion reaction for this channel still works at p186:

If a faster insertion reaction can be found, the new channel itself supports switch engines following each other down to p144.

The above pattern shows an alternate suppression by the fifth glider. The one shown in the switch engine article produces the same big backward spark as the boat catalysis.

is this partial known? (original by me, wick by EvinZL)

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 39, rule = B3/S23

I'm unsure, ...
Good point! ...

The old repeat time was 256 according to the switch-engine-channel article. The insertion reaction for this channel still works at p186:
...
Congratulations to wwei47 who found this stable catalyst.
