In this thread, I'm going to pretend that I wake up one day on a desert island with only my laptop but with all CA-related stuff (Golly, apgsearch, etc.) removed, and I want to redevelop CA technology. Essentially this is this thread but slower and more systematic.

If you don't want anybody to contribute, why are you doing this on a publicly editable thread? Wouldn't it make more sense to do this on a static page only you can edit? e.g. in your userspace in LW

(let's just say that there is an internet connection, but for some weird reason conwaylife.com and all other CA-related websites and web pages are blocked.)
