So here is my plan to make such a pattern. I found the following MWSS rake in the jslife collection. The rake is glider constructible and two of them touch every cell in the SW corner of the Life plane. So we would need a universal constructor that makes the rakes and then rebuilds itself somewhere down in the SE but rotated 90 degrees clockwise. The next iteration would touch every cell in the NW and so on and so on....
This is the first thing I thought of that even sounds half way practical so feel free to shout me down if I am making things way way too complicated.
