If you can't figure that out:
00111000
00000101
10001101
11011100
00111110
0 = dead
1 = alive

The recommended way to share a pattern is to post the RLE code of the pattern within "code" tags. Here are the two patterns you posted above (with the first pattern fixed by changing '0' to 'o' and removing the space before '!'):

Code: Select all

x = 8, y = 5, rule = B3/S23
2b3o$5bobo$o3b2obo$2ob3o$2b5o!

Code: Select all

x = 24, y = 12, rule = B3/S23
2bob2obobo$3o3bo$4b2obobo$bo2bo$4b2ob2o$b2o2bob3o$2b3o3bo$b2o2bob2o$2o
3b2o$2o3bo2bo12b3o$21bo$22bo!
Some more R-pentomino predecessors can be found at R-pentomino. Also see Mark Niemiec's database (The 2 five-bit methuselahs), R-pentomino hasslers, Category:B-heptomino-to-R-pentomino converters, Category:Herschel-to-R-pentomino converters. If more predecessors are needed, Logic Life Search and/or Tutorials/Glider syntheses might turn out helpful.

Welcome to the forums! Here is a little explanation to the link-rich response above:

R-pentomino is on the second place in list of common evolutionary sequences, meaning that there will be a large amount of easy-to-find random patterns of various size and complexity that evolve to an R-pentomino or converge to its evolutionary sequence. Considering their further applications, our community has estabilished several criteria to decide which ones are of interest.

The ones that we generally care about are, as exemplified by several links above, small ones (as listed on the LifeWiki R-pentomino page), easily glider-synthesizable ones (as mentioned in Mark Niemiec's database and Tutorials/Glider syntheses), and "engineerable" ones (as demonstrated in R-pentomino hasslers and elementary conduits/converters).

All that said, don't worry about letting us down! Before future exploration, I recommend starting from our tutorials and textbook.

Interestingly, I don't recognize the immediate predecessors for the first pattern. The way the second one forms is much more typical.

Then there's the formation in the strictly volatile p86, in which it doesn't converge until generation 11 (5 is a very common convergence point, but past 5 is almost unheard of):

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
29b2o2$28bo$bo28bo$3o22bo2bobo$2bo21bo4bo$25bob2o$26b2o2$23b2o$23b2o!
And the "fake R"; check generation 4 and 5 of the viewer (11 and 12 of the pentomino itself) — the fake one dies out.

Code: Select all

x = 20, y = 5, rule = B3/S23
b3o12b3o$bo2bo11bo2bo$o3bo11bo2bo$bo2bo11bo2bo$bobo13b2o!

Suggest should be renamed as above and, for a start, a clean predecessor of a paperclip:
R-pentomino+Honey-farm+Traffic-light=Paperclip

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 11, rule = B3/S23
2b3o2$o5bo7bo$o5bo6bobo$o5bo6bob2o$14b2o$2b3o2$20bo$19b3o$21bo!
Some predecessors of patterns might allow fewer-glider syntheses.
Currently writing a utility in Lua that may be helpful for faster manual pattern manipulation.

Blocks on both sides of the input R like that are still pretty much a death sentence for an R-to-X conduit. HLx111R is one of the stars of the show as far as edgy R outputs are concerned -- and unfortunately it's still one cell away from getting an R past that top block. Try fitting these two halves together: [...]
Motivated by that question, below are several R-pentomino predecessors (from octo3obj database) that can be used to create that input R:

Code: Select all

x = 119, y = 142, rule = LifeSuper

Some predecessors go through a spark+block collision, and might be solvable by a reasonably sized engineered conduit (a combination of a block factory and a sparker):

Code: Select all

x = 40, y = 15, rule = LifeHistory
8.2E28.2E$8.2E28.2E2$31.A$3A27.A.A$3.A.2A26.A.2A$2.A2.2AD23.2A2.2AD$.
A5.2D28.2D$6.2D28.2D5$6.2E28.2E$6.2E28.2E!
Edit: this conduit does "something similar" (around T = 120), but the output is B
MathAndCode wrote: January 16th, 2022, 11:50 pm Here is a new H->B conduit, whose systematic name is HF132B.

Getting the glider output (which would also be new) looks possible, but I haven't found a way to do it.
